I'm competing next sat and have never used dream tan, can anyone explain the application process? I've had a great dieting process, I'm 14lbs heavier than last year and just as lean I'm so excited I don't want to screw things up with applying the dream tan. Will one container be enough for the show? and how thin of a coat do you apply?

John

Congrats on your progress!

There was just a post on tanning.

You may want to do a search on that.

1 container is going to be plenty. There are two tints of Dream Tan. One bronze, one red. I have used the Bronze, not sure of the number.

The thinner/lighter the better. You can get a whole coat on in less than 20 minutes, someone will have to help you and you will need to use gloves.

The dream tan is spread/stretched onto the skin.

You will probably still need to have used protan or some of the salon mystic tan to get a base coat. Especially for your face and neckline.

I put my dream tan on the morning of the comp before leaving home. Some put it on at the comp. I believe Aram puts his on the night before, it is in the post on comp tanning I mentioned.

Mine stays on all day, even with sweats and long sleeves on.

I have not had to touch up or anything. Just some oil and get on stage.

The dream tan does tend to give me a kind of plastic look. Just an FYI.

Good luck on congrats on the weight gain.

PS hope you can make it up to IL to compete in November.

I used Dream Tan in two prior competitions...and will never use it again. This last April I went back to the ProTan method after getting the 'recipe' from Cythnia James (helps all the IFBB pros get their color just right). Here is what I did:

1) On wednesday I took two showers and used St. Ives exfoliating gel with a loofa scrub pad. (sweet lord in heaven....what demonic entity created these things....I think I could have gone through less pain if I was dragged behind a motorcycle on I-10 through downtown Phoenix)

2) On thursday morning I did one more exfoliating scrub (thank god).

3) Thursday 3pm - first coat....spent one hour in front of fans (while playing Tiger Woods 2005 on X-Box). Then I went to the gym for a little 30 minute circuit training workout. I wore some warm up pants and a sweat shirt. I didnt put any dye on the hands because I didnt want people asking me about it. At about 10pm I showered again, and then did the fan thing for another hour. On came the second coat.

4) Friday I woke up and showered. As I said before, I kind of freaked when I looked down and saw all of the color in the water going down the drain. I should mention that I did not use the loofa pad, but rather a bar of dial soap...and just a gentle scrub over the body. I did it to (as Elizabeth recommended) get rid of any 'funk' that would have built up. Anyway, I went to a seminar in the morning and when I came home for lunch I did my tanning coat. At about 5:30pm I went to the gym for my '20 minute whole body routine' and then came home. I showered about 6:30, waited an hour, and then did my painting again.

5) On saturday morning I woke up about 5am...did what I had to, then about 7am we did my final coat of Pro-Tan. I did NOT shower before this coat. I did stand in front of fans for about 30 minutes. As one would expect, there was some 'running' of the color because of sweat. Between pre-judging and finals I came home and took a nap. I woke up about 3pm, and ate a meal. Then about 4pm I took a shower. I did the same thing as above with the use of Dial soap. Then the fan thing....and then my final coat of spray.

The way we did the Pro-Tan was using small areas, spray a little...run a hair dryer...then blend in with a brush. We got so good at it that we could do the whole body in about 25 - 30 minutes.

AzProNaturals explanation is exactly the reason why I'm going to try dream tan this year. Enough people have had good experiences with it that it seems well worth a test just to be able to avoid the three day four hour multi step process that Az went through. I am sick of that process and the mess plus have had problems with it not turning out right in the past - so if there is some risk either way - I'll go with the 20 minute method and give it a whirl.

I really think that unless you turn out blotchy or runny, greenish or orangish or are too light - that any other method is going to be sufficient. Surely an awful tan coat, or being way too light can ruin your placing - but I have yet to see anyone not place as they should have because so and so had a little better tan. If a small difference in someones tan becomes a decision maker for a judge - please get a new judge or try a different federation because "that just ain't right"

Congrats on your improvements John. What shows are you doing this year?

My problem with Dream tan is that I felt it smoothed me out...the very same way that women use certain products to hide wrinkles on their face.

if it smoothed you out in certain areas then the dream tan was put on too thick and then it basically will hide the definition you want to see in a way that women hide blemishes on their face!

Well...I used only one coat...and didnt go through all that much. Just a personal opinion. I do know some competitions are not allowing it to be used back stage.

AZ had the same thing happen to me once with dreamtan but put it on way too thick and that is what happens, but now do 3 coats mystic tan spray machine, 2 coats protan, and 1 coat dream tan morning of show and ready to go.

Everyone thank you for all the great info. I tried a practice coat a few days ago and it looked great. I'm off for the NGA Natural Louisiana Pro Qualifier fri morning. I'm still blown away from the progress after my last two shows, the supplements played a major role in this. I will post the results when I return again thank you all.

John,

I just ordered Dream Tan (shade 2) and am going to try it for the first time. Glad to hear that it came out well for you. What was your "method"?
