I am wondering what everyone thinks of a warmup show?
My wife is preparing for a show on 4-30-05 in OK NGA.
We are going to attend the Northern Kentucky and I am trying to convince her to do the show as a warmup since she has only done one show in the past. She doesn't want to do a show that she doesn't feel prepared to win. In all honesty I really dont't think she is going to be very far off, if at all. She is a heavy weight for womens BB. I was curious what the experienced competitors thought about this. her target show will still be 6 weeks away after the northern.

That's quite a gap in between shows, but I've seen it done before. It would def. be a good experience and probably give her more motivation to finish out the diet for the April show.

I'm not a firm believer in a warm up show. It can give you the feeling of going at things halfway. If it is set as a full all out contest, then the Northern as the second, then do it within reason.

If you go at things with a mediocre intent, that can be habit or leave a bad feeling. She could be in ok shape and win, then the feeling, "Well, I did this good only working at it half intensity. I can cruise into the Northern."

Every major sport does that and it affects them in their next showing.

Don't know if I would call myself an experienced competitor, but I can share my experience. I did shows about 3 weeks apart last year, I knew I wouldn't be completely ready for the first one, even still it was VERY hard convincing myself of that. I did however use the show to try a different carb approach, that helped me dial in for the show 3 weeks later. So if you look at it from that perspective, it's a good way to learn about yourself. Competing is really knowing your body and how it reacts.

The show I did was small, nothing like the Northern, so I guess it would depend on what she has done in the past. If she is comfortable taking the "warm up" approach to a bigger show, then go for it. But, if you have the time, I would have her get ready for it as if it were show 1 of 2, all out, not a warm up for the 2nd show.

It was a mental challenge for me to be up twice, I am sure the seasoned veterans can handle this no problem.
