Dream tan questions - about to place order

This will be my first contest and I want to get REALLY dark. I will have a base tan from the tanning bed going into the show.

I hear Dream Tan is good stuff, and did a search on it, but didn't find answers to the following questions:

1. Dream Tan instructions say one coat is all you need. But can I use more than one coat?

2. I read on another board that some promoters (and possibly the NPC) have banned the use of Dream Tan due to staining. IS that true?

3. Would a single coat of Dream Tan on top of a couple coats of Pro Tan work well, as opposed to a couple coats of Dream Tan (I read that Dream Tan doesn't really dry...)

Thanks in advance. I just want to get this right - and I think the darker the better! Wink

Fireproof.. I use Dream Tan - on top of about 4-5 coats of Pro-Tan and it seems to work well for me this way. Also, I'm going to try another technique that has been proven to work well with Dream Tan.. apply it Friday night and sleep with it on. Touch up Sat. a.m. and wear very loose clothes on way to show (per Sulcop).

One caution - don't OVER apply Dream Tan.. it can mask definition if applied too thick and dense. Also, I heard recently that there is a dream tan mousse you can use as a finishing product. Haven't tried it yet.

Fireproof--the suggestion Brochas mentioned should work well. Dreamtan is simply amazing. I'm pretty dark naturally and tan quite a lot prior to the show.

I apply one coat of dreamtan in the morning before the pre-judging. I don't use protan or any other tanning agent. However, I also apply another coat before the evening free pose. Everyone complemented me on my color in the evening. That's why I think Brochas suggestion (via Sully) is an excellent way to go.

I used 3-4 coats of protan and sunless mosturizer. The day before the show I started to apply dream tan #2 very lightly in order to touch up the protan which gets kind of flacky and rubs off. I slept with the dream tan on thinking I would have to apply another coat on sat. morning but none of it came off. I woke up sat. morning ready to go. I shaved my face sat. morning and applied a thin layer of dream tan to my face and that was it. You can take the dream tan to the show to touch up if you need to but I did not. I spryed pam on top of the dream tan and went on stage. I was very pleased with the result. (A thin coat of dream tan will give you a finished shimmer that looks amazing)

Dreamtan has more of a muddy consistancy. It would be hard to put on more then 1 coat. The only issue you may have is how thick you want to put it on. I use about 3-5 coats of protan and then put on dreamtan the day of the show. I never have used pam or anything like that because dreamtan seems to have a glossy appearance as it is.

Fireproof...I am whiter than the background on this message board! I don't really even get that tan in the tanning bed (I do it anyway). I used 2 coats of Protan (one thurs night, one friday) and one coat of Dream Tan #2 on the morning of the show. Everyone told me it looked great. It's a pain for me since I shave my head, I gotta cover it all. I did some touchup throughout the day and for the evening show. I also sprayed a little Hot Stuff on top and then "patted" it in before it ran. Made me look a little more shiny.

I would recommend Dream Tan #2 regardless of your skin tone. Dream Tan #1 is more of a gold like color, whereas #2 is like a bronzey/brown color. When you apply it, rub it on, than pat it to make sure there's no swirls. It's easy to put on.

I think what you might have heard is that a lot of places that host shows hate the mess, so they will ban using it in certain areas throughout the building.

Hope this helps.

Dwayne

Thanks everyone for your help!! I just ordered some Pro Tan Competition formula for base coats, Dream Tan for top coat, and some Hot Stuff. Wink

Any thoughts on Posing Oils or do you like the look of just Dream Tan or Hot Stuff without oil added? I heard Andreas Cahling's posing oil is good.

Dwayne - that makes perfect sense about not being able to use it in certain areas. I've seen signs to that effect.

Oh - regarding Dream Tan application - it says to just rub it on with your hand. Do you use a bare hand or latex glove?

Thanks again!

FP...You'll need some help putting it on, you can have that person use gloves. I did some touch up myself during the day, just used my hands.

With dream tan as the top coat you need to be careful with application of oils and hot stuff. Mohammad Moshen the maker of dream tan now has a new version of hot stuff that still works to bring ot the vascularity with no hot stuff eye watering smell and it works great with dream tan. If you only have hot stuff or posing oil I reccomend a cheap airbrush (like the kind at hobby stores) to spray on a THIN/EVEN coat of oil or the hot stuff. When I did this it made the sheen better and there were no patches or streaks.

My girlfriend and I spoke w/ Mohamed at the arnold and he said it was not a good idea to mix pro tan and dream tan, but then again he probably just wants his product used. Any way (we heard most people do mix them), my gf has a figure comp this Sat and I was wondering what you guys would suggest as far using protan for 1-2 coats (she's pretty dark already) and touching up w/ dream tan on Sat. morning. We've never used dream tan before, so Mohamed gave us some for free, which I thought was pretty cool. I'm just weary because last year I went to a show and this guy had on dream tan and it looked horrible, looked like he had used shoe polish, he had a good physique too, but is tan ruined him
Thanx

A few followup questions as my contest is next week.

I hear that many people start applying a coat of Pro-Tan on Wed, then another on Thursday, then a final coat on Friday. In this scenario - when do you do it? Do you shower right after? Do you need to sleep on throw-away sheets or will they wash clean?

Also, when layering on a few coats like that, do you skip the face and only do the face the day of the competition? Or do you do that every day too?

Thanks for answering this newbie's questions!!

I begin Pro-Tan Weds. evening - wear old baggy clothes to bed.. no shower off in a.m. Apply 2nd coat of Pro-Tan Thursday a.m. or wait till later in the evening if you don't want to feel gross & sticky to go to work.. and I apply 2 more coats Thurs. p.m.- still no shower (GROSS).. sleep in it. Shower off FRIDAY a.m. - apply 4th coat of Pro-Tan. I then travelled to my show location and applied 5th and final coat of pro-tan. Slept in it.. went to show Sat. a.m. - apply Ultra Bronzer on top of Pro-Tan at show. Professional posing oil..dab off .. you are ready to hit the stage! Also, I do not apply pro-tan to the face. Some use dream tan on show day.. but I avoid putting Pro-Tan on face entirely. I'm female and apply a very dark mocha colored make up and then dab on dream tan to blend to match neck color. Good luck!! (p.s. you can't ever be TOO dark.. so error on 4-5 coats..)

i pretty much do same thing as brochas does with one exception and that is the face. i found a great facial tanner by nutrogena. i started applying it on sunday and will do so every day till saturday - show day. right now i have great color on my face, gets darker every day even after i wash my face. i have used dark makeup before, thought i'd try this instead and i am very pleased with the results so far.

What's the exact name of the product? I shave my head and have to put tanning products on face and head, so that sounds like a good idea.

Fireproof, are you doing the Coleman? If not, which one are you going to be doing?

As for the Dream Tan, yep, don't leave home without it.

Check and make sure of the areas you will be permitted to sit, etc. I'm sure they will be banning competitors from certain areas.

Email me as to which contest you're doing. Franknater@yahoo.com

I seem to be running against the tide here, but I didn't like dream tan at all. I applied it on Sat. morning of my show and it took almost an hour and a half to get it on. It threw off my whole schedule for the morning and I didn't get to eat as planned. It rubbed off on everything and consequently I did not have even coverage for the judging. Any contact my body had with things, like the car seat or the stadium seats while waiting for the show, took the tan off so I looked lighter in those areas. The show didn't allow dream tan on the premises so I couldn't touch up. I tried to put some Pam on for sheen and it made the dream tan run. Didn't any of you folks have similar problems? I'm very fair skinned and one coat did not make me dark enough. I'm leary of using it again. I'm going to go with just the Pro Tan, multiple coats, and mystic tan, per recommendations on this board.

An hour and a half.. how did you do that? It takes me usually about 30 minutes tops to get a coat on somebody. You need to let it dry in some before you put clothes back on, I normally wait about 15 minutes, it does rub off some, but not to the extent that there are real "light" areas, plus once you put some Pam on you can even it out again (don't use too much, shouldn't run at all). If you have 3-4 coats of ProTan on and the DreamTan on top you should be fine, even if you're fair skinned.
