Are you working with someone at Beverly? I would touch base with them and get some pointers. You should start practicing now, that way you won't be so nervous when it comes to the day of the show.

Melissa, there are a couple gals in the Duluth area that have done figure competitions, you could check with them to see if they have any tape footage of their contests. Also, you may want to give North Star a call over in Superior, as 'Karri' that used to work there has trained some gals for figure comps before. If you want to call my Duluth store, I can get you some phone numbers that may be of help, too ... most importantly, try to relax ... your posing and facings ARE very important, but your condition along with a confident, relaxed presentation will be your greatest ally ... good luck, tom

Melissa,
I assume the 6 weeks is up...how did it go? I'm getting ready for my first figure contest, a small one (I think) but I'm pretty nervous too. I've been working with Rachel Johnson here at Beverly and she is wonderful - got to meet her at the Arnold Classic Expo booth and got my bf measurement done. Are you hooked on competing now...any pointers for me? Thanks, Kelly

I'm planning to try my luck in WV at the Weirton one April 24th, in figure. I wish I could make the one the weekend before in Cincinnati. It has a novice class. I could wait til October (Monster Mash) to do a novice one, but I'm geared up for it now. I don't know what to do. Since I'm just doing this for fun, and not to get into it professionally, I guess it doesn't matter. Also thinking of doing WV Mountaineer Cup June 12 (figure).

Kelly, My first show was wonderful and I am hooked, Never thought I would be Wink I placed 4th out of 7 so it wasn't too bad, I had better expectations of myself but all the Judges are different and you never know what they are looking for! I learned ALOT in my first show! You are going to absolutely love it! My next show is June 12th! Good Luck to you! Let me know if you need any further advise?

Melissa,

You've done a show before. Each one that goes under the belt should just give you that much more confidence. Nothing to worry about. All the jitters are weeks before and...it's all in your mind. Smile

Make the jitters a positive thing. Great for an andrenalin rush! One thing you do is practice your routine, posing or whatever it is you need to have down and that will build confidence. Sometimes jitters come from the lack of confidence and once you build that confidence, you walk out on stage and judges will see it.

How do you build confidence? Practice, practice and more practice.

Now, GO FOR IT!
