Why so much cardio???? Help.Go ![]() | New ![]() | Find ![]() | Tools ![]() | Reply ![]()

I've failed to make it to stage because I wasn't lean enough these last few attmepts by letting the diet do the work and 30min cardio 6/days a week. My first and only show, I got 2nd and cut to 8% by doing 2X 40min cardio sessions. I read all of the time..."Let the diet do the work." I read other competitors doing only 30min or 40min of cardio that's all so what's wrong with me? I'd be happy to share my diet but it's nothing new from what we all know. I'd be happy to share my training too. At this point I'm doing 40min 4X/wk & 30min 2X/wk right now and at 12%bf. The scale went up a pound but bf% didn't change so that's good but I need to get leaner and since I have that one competition doing LOTS of cardio, I'm thinking that I HAVE to do that again and not looking forward to that again. What's your advice? Help! TIA

The only way I get lean is cardio. Diet and workout will not do it for me. As soon as I hit the cardio button, fat starts to leave the body. Try a max of 30 min in the AM, empty stomach, mild cardio (LISS) for 4X per week, drink plenty of water beginning on the way into the gym. Longer warm up in the evening, say 15 min and use this as a starter. Lessen your carb intake on days off. White potatoes? Use 'em. Frank "Lift and be happy. Thanks Frank! Thanks for the advice, I'll try it. Haven't had a white tater since Thanksgiving. My carb intake is typically between 40 to 80/day. I'll cycle my carbs every few days and Friday I'll carb up around 150gr. I guess a lot of cardio is "normal" for some and perhaps it's more unusual to do so little for contest prep. I was really fighting the idea of doing so much cardio but it worked for that one show that I did so I guess it's just the way my body works. I've decided to do 30min 4X/wk and 60 2X/wk. I was doing 2 - 30 to 40 min sessions in the last 4wks for my last show, I sure hope I don't have to do that. Wish me luck!

Is fish in your diet? I'll find the post on how to use potatoes for your fat burning. It can be very advantageous. For now, just hold off the 60 min cardio, make it 45 only. Frank "Lift and be happy. Lift harder and be excited...Get Excited, Get Big!!!"

Really?!!? I had no idea! Hmmm, I'll definately be looking forward to that link. So for cardio, what about M,T,TH &F just 30min then W & Sat, do 45min. I've got my weigh-in with bf check on Thursday so the added cardio should help a bit. I only need like 6 pounds(is) to lose. It'd be great if I could actually gain in a contest prep like some that I read about. I just don't expect it. Anyway, thanks for your support Frank.
