muscles cramping

My problem is cramping…. Last week after leg training I was flexing my quads before bed and they LOCKED UP. Hard to explain, but my quads would not release. The muscle just above my knee locked up and would not relax. The pain was crippling and I was unable to relax my quads or walk for nearly 5 minutes. I have had my muscles cramp before, BUT this time they would not release and were flexed for ~3-5 minutes. Same thing happened early this morning, but this time it was my inner thigh muscles that locked up. I did do my leg training last night.
No other muscles lock up like this, only the quads. I am really flexing my quads hard in hopes for more muscle separation.
This is a little scary when it happens for I have no way to relax the muscles. They eventually relax after about 3-5 minutes.
Any help or suggestion would be great.

I salt all food and drink about 2 gallons of water per day. I am 3 1/2 weeks out and have been on delete/load carb diet for past 6 weeks.

Just try and make sure your sodium levels are at least near 3000 mg's per day!! And stretch hard as weel, and its is really sometimes tough to flex those legs after the workouts involving legs!! Good Luck!

This is actually a very normal occurance and through practice you'll know when to taper down on the quad contraction so you won't experience that locked out cramp. I agree with Craig about the stretching 100%. Check out my "Quad Separation" thread for some good ideas on stretching the quads.I also recommend riding the stationary bike at a moderate to hard tension for 10 minutes, prior to attacking the legs.

These cramps become a nuisance when I am practicing my mandatory poses, but it is a feeling I have come to gladly accept. As long as your not cramping up in the middle of the night and waking up from the pain, then you're OK Smile

Do most of your stretching in the gym during and after training legs and learn to enjoy the pain afterwards. It's an indication that you had a great leg day.

Calcium!!

My hammy's do that after a good hard workout. Stretching, massaging after the workout is always good.
