i have seen this at that store and the macros are similar to that of brown rice and it is advertised as a whole grain. any thoughts on incorperating this into ones diet?

Simply use it as you would brown rice. I rotate it in as one of my carb sources year around, as it is a nice change. I will also use it as I would oatmeal, with a little cinnamon and stevia or Splenda. The texture is very satisfying and goes well with most anything.

I think barley is far superior to brown rice as a complex carb. It contains more nutrients AND it's lower on the glycemic index.

A-Plus for Barley. Great carb source, high in fiber and B vit's. Puts brown rice to shame in my opinion.

They have instant barley, which I don't like very well. If not, the regular barley takes about 30 to 45 min. to prepare like rice. I add fennel and garlic.....yum.

i have used the instant barley (quaker brand) you can cook it on the stove top or in the microwave. the microwave only takes about three minutes. if i make a half cup then ill put just under a half cup of barley and some garlic and onion powder and three minutes and its ready

Can barley be eaten raw like oats or would it have to be prepared?

oats are one of the softest of the rolled grains. rye is much dense as is barley as i rememmber it. i think oats have even been steamed or cooked somewhat to be rolled oats. could be wrong
