Hey what does everyone think about the max-out style of training. I was wanting to give it a shot. Please tell me if any of you have ever had any experience with it good or bad?

Strength? Power? Size? Mass? This is a good way to train for it. I do it almost exclusively, but CONTROLED and Zig Zagged, if you will. Make sure your FORM IS PERFECT!!!!!!! FORM FORM FORM FORM FORM FORM FORM....Can't stress it enough.

<begin Soapbox> To often you see turds in the gym with 50% range of motion reps, or "bounicing", or rounded backs/stiff legs when deadlifting. It is a TRAVESTY. Huge pet peeve of mine if you couldn't already tell... If you are gonna do it, for god's sakes, do it RIGHT! <end of soapbox>

So anyways, yes a great way to train! Just be careful.

Hey Chunk, I thought some controlled cheating or forced reps were a part of MAX-OT, am I wrong on that one. I know I cant go that heavy with PERFECT FORM. I have to loosen in a bit to throw around the heavy weight.

Controlled yes! Forced reps sure! But those are still performed with STRICT form. If you can one rep max a heavy load with STRICT form, then it is safe to say that you can do a little bit more with sloppier form. But that doesn't make for any better gains in strength and worse, it taxes your joints even more and risk of injury is 10 fold.

I can perform a 605 lbs deadlift with strict form for 2 reps with great form! I don't dare loosen up my form with that kind of weightload!! So it doesn't make sense to me to swap my form for an extra 10 lbs. You can still attempt the 1 rep max with great form, but the second that form slips, that is the end of that attempt.... For me anyways. That is allways how I've done it and I think others should too. Do you see what I mean?

Same philosophy can be applied to Incline Barbells, Inlcine D-bells, Squats, Front Squats.... grrrrrrRRRR I am getting jacked just writing these compound lifts! I CAN'T "WEIGHT" TO CRUSH SOME CHEST LATER!!

Many of my pull routines can vary slightly. My push routines suffer. I cannot cheat at all. For example, I do bent over rows with 245 but when I go to 305, I have to cheat royally, still keeping a lot of the form except I will use more leg force and try to let it down slow and controlled. Since I don't have a spotter or workout partner, it is impossible to perform the same on the bench.

Wow, that got the hormones rushing. I'm out!
