My wife is about to hit 8 weeks out. For the past 4 weeks we tried the Bev 12 week out program that comes in the Bev pre-contest training manual/binder we got a few years ago. The next program is for 8 weeks out - 3 days on, 1 off, repeat, with a lot of supersetting. But this is the last program listed - there isn't another one listed for 4 weeks out. We normally don't stick with the same workout routine for more than 4 weeks, to try to keep the muscle guessing. So is this 8 week out program really supposed to go for 7 weeks (not counting the last week, which is a different workout)? We can make up our own routine, but were okay with trying something different (the Bev plan) too. If you continue to make progress in the 8 weeks leading up to the show, it is usually advisable to continue with the same workout. There are alterations that should be made as the contest approached. For example, it is counterproductive to train to failure the couple of weeks leading up to the show; however, it is beneficial to continue supersetting and to reduce rest periods before supersets (you are substituting one form of intensity for another). There is a full article taken from one of the Beverly pre contest seminars in the Featured Articles area of the www.bodybuildingworld.com website. (The Featured Articles section is on the left side of the main page.) You could certainly substitute for some of the exercises or rearrange them in a different order. For example take this workout: Squats, Leg Press, Leg Extension, Leg Curl; now do it in this sequence instead: Leg Extension, Leg Curl, Leg Press, Squat - you'll have a whole different workout. | |||
