This Q is for VA or any other DC believers out there.
What do you do when you go on a cruise?
I will be completing my first go 'round with it and I must say I'm stronger than ever. I am also the heaviest and leanest I've been at this weight in my entire 25 year old life.
Also,
After the cruise, where do you start back up in weight in the log book?
I figure it will be lighter than the last PR in the book but how much lighter?
Back when i did DC my cruises would consist of about 1-2 weeks of light work. If i felt good and fully recovered, I would rest a week if not I would do 2 weeks, which was one full workout schedule when using the 2-day split and 3 exercises on the MWF (that was a mouthful). Basically what i did instead of resting was straight sets in place of the RP. VA may be able to better answer as I know he's tinkered around with it quite a bit, but i would do a straight set of usually 10-15 for most body parts. so a little bit lighter weight and when i resumed I would pick up where I thought I could handle. Which was usually at my previous weight, sometimes 5-10 lbs lower but I would blow it out the next time around.
Actually its funny that Bill wrote what he does literally on a cruise ship. I was actually up for a cruise starting the week after next but I am going on my honeymoon the week after the week after next. So, I think I'm going to just blast until then and take the 1.5 week vacation on my literal "cruise."
winflex - The way Rypat did it is fine, but there are other approaches also. The idea is to give yourself a break from the constant increase in reps and weight and the R/P sets. It is still ok to lift but do it more for fun and do not push the envelope during that week. Straight sets are the rule, no rest pausing. I use the week break to do exercises that I like but that are not part of my normal DC training plan. I'm surprised at the decent pump and different feel that I'll get even with straight sets that are not pushed to the limit. Perhaps it is the different angles, etc. It is also a great time to try out new exercises that you have been thinking about incorporating into your regular DC routine. You can "take them for a test run" or "practice them" to see if you like the feel, etc.
If you need to take two weeks that is ok too. One week usually does it for me then I'm anxious to get back to DCing.
As far as return weights go I'll usually look for a rep and weight point that is close to where I was on the second or third rotation during the last blast. That will put me above my previous starting weight but short of the reps/weight that I was at at the end of the blast. This is a personal thing, so don't spend too much time trying to get it just right. It is easy enough to adjust the second time through. Have fun on your honeymoon and real cruise!
