It all depends on what areas of the lats you are wanting to work and needs to be brought up. Do the wide grip for the outer and width. Overhand closer grip for more into the inner lats towards the middle of the back and do the close underhand grip if your like myself and need to bring up the lower lats. I use the hammer strength on this one. Hope this helps!!

This is one of those that it is not so much the angle, but following a full range of motion. Others will like to pause at the bottom. On the close grip, bringing the bar far down to lower pect level causing the elbows to be extending beyond the back can have a tremendous potential to build large lats. Start off with lighter weight, though. Swinging is not advised. Some will pull and swing so far back, it is no longer a pull down, but a vertical low row.
