Anyone trained using both methods? I had success with the volume training (10 sets of 10) years ago. I also am a fan of the late Mike Mentzor and enjoyed studying his Philosophies. In my opinion HIT works great for strength Just curious to see what everyone thinks

Well I am a true ectomorph and 10 x 10 overtrained me in about 2 weeks, now the HIT low volume has worked wonders for me. 1 set to failure has been the best overall gaining strength program I have ever done.

I experienced something similar to what mecca went through. I did GVT for about 6 weeks approximately 8-9 years ago. My calories simply weren't high enough, although I was eating a lot. I gained no muscle whatsoever. The other thing which bothered me, was that when I returned to a more conventional bodybuilding routine, incorporating power movements like squats, barbell rows, and weighted dips....I discovered that I lost a LOT of strength. It took me roughly another 8 weeks to regain my strength back to where I should've been. My suggestion is to save GVT for a hypertrophy phase, but make doubly sure that your recovery parameters, especially caloric intake, is over the top. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend it.
