I love weights, hate cardio. I am willing to do what it takes to get to 8-10% bf (currently at 21%) Any advice on a great cardio routine for someone with limited time? Thanks

Look to your diet as your primary source for burning fat, not cardio. I never do cardio. Not even for shows. Everyone's different, but without posting your diet, we have no clue regarding proper advice.

Welcome to the boards! Smile

Aram is a lucky or should I say amazing man. Cardio is an unfortunate must for most of us.
Coming from someone who also hates cardio go with High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). Every piece of cardio equipment at your gym will have some form of this on it's preset programs. It usually appears as Hills.
After weight training choose a high level and go for anywhere from 12-20 min. Don't have access to cardio equipment, jump rope in the same fashion or go for a run. 1 minute all out, then slow up for 30-40 seconds. Recent studies have shown you may be able to burn up to 6x more fat using this method in half the time on the machine.
Change the machine or method regularly to prevent burnout.

I have the opposite problem - I love cardio! The problem is I'm an ectomorph and having a really hard time gaining muscle. Over the years I've consulted many trainers, all told me to cut down on cardio. I rejected this and instead did both weights and cardio (daily cardio - 30-90 mins, mostly intervals). As a result, very little gains were made over years. Recently started with a trainer - tried me on 4x cardio/week (3 HITT, 1 steady state-25 minutes max), plus heavy lifting 4x week and eating clean 5-6x/day. I cheated a little - did a couple extra days of steady state. Now he wants me down to 3x/wk cardio - 2 HITT and 1 SS, no more than 20 minutes. This is really hard for me but I'm trying. Questions: 1) does walking really slow count? and 2) anyone else out there that went thru this and was able to overcome it, stop the cardio, and make good gains?

Well......I can't say that I love cardio but more like addicted...lol. I was doing 45 min on weight training days and an 1hr or more on non training days. Needless to say very little muscle. Since Thanksgiving I have slowly taken out most of the cardio and increased my lifting schedule, I have put on 10lbs of lean mass since that time. That's probably not typical but I'm only doing about 20 minutes LISS cardio in the mornings and lifting 4days a week. My body fat% actually went down as well. Stopping most cardio was the best thing I've done for this body in years.

Shar - thanks so much for responding! I haven't come across anyone at the gym that shares my problem (most despise cardio and would gladly give up) and it's good to hear from someone that was able to overcome the cardio obsession. Do you LISS (I assume that means low intensity steady state-correct?) every day or just on cardio days? Do you go on any walks as well or is that it? I want to gain muscle as well but have to admit I get a little edgy when I put on weight even though I know it's necessary when gaining muscle. I weigh myself daily (used to do it 2x/day, got it down to 1), which I know is not good - I hope to be able to throw the scale away soon and just do the weigh-in's once a month with my trainer. I have to ask - was the muscle gain strictly from cutting down on cardio? Did you also eat more? I'm wondering if I continue eating as I do now and cut the cardio if I will gain a lot and if it will be mostly muscle (like you, I'm lifting hard 4x/week).

Yep, low intensity steady state. I usually do it every morning for about 15 to 20 minutes and that's it unless I feel like going for a stroll in the evening and it's strictly a stroll just to get out in the sun. I was down to a size 2....I looked sick and felt sick. I did start eating more, I double my calories up to about 3000 on training days. I just wasn't meant to be a size two and I get compliments on how much better I look now. I'm still only 12.5% bodyfat...and feel 100 times better. You gotta quit weighing yourself everyday. You can do it. You will probably gain some mass if you stop so much cardio but if you want to gain, you have to eat.
