I've beeen getting alot of conflicting information. I was told not to do squats because it is too hard on the joints. I was told to do lunges. I don't know what to do anymore. Can someone advise?

Mary Ann - Both or neither can be hard on your joints. It has more to do with proper form, warm-up, stretching and nutrition than it does with a particular exercise. If you learn how to do either correctly you should not have any problems.

Squats are a good over-all core exercise, where lunges would be more of a specialized exercise choice. Try both and perhaps you will want to include each in your routine.

Don't be afraid of lifting weights (as a woman), there are many benefits that come from weight lifting including speeding up your metabolism and thus burning more body fat along the way. Moderate weights are fine, you don't have to push too hard early on. Once you get the feel of the exercises you can slowly try to add weight.

Good luck in meeting your goals!
