Just wondering if anyone has ever tried Pete Sisco's Train Smart program which was also featured on Anthony Robbins "Ultimate Edge program"

Would this be a good program on the off season after a long layoff or is it just another spoof?

IMO, Sisco's books are gimmicky and go against any real scientific data that supports strength training. Furthermore, I hate to admittedly be this shallow, but have you ever seen what Pete Sisco looks like? Despite how intelligent someone may be, I have a tough time taking training advice from someone who looks like Sisco.

I've read some of his older works (PFT and SCT) and found them to work much better in theory. I believe that almost any change in training stimulus (including Sisco's theories) will elicit a temporary positive response whether it be increased strength, power, endurance, hypertrophy, etc.

However, Sisco's works become overly complex, ignore any type of movement and/or philosophy that will carry over to the real world, and leave the reader focusing too much on equations and "power factors" instead of what is really important....going into the gym and working hard.

Worth a read for the sake of acquiring knowledge and having more insight to some guy's exercise theories but I would save yourself the time and effort of practicing any of these theories in the gym.

Kamaaina,

I got to thinking about your question regardig Pete Sisco and if you're looking for a good training program that is very time effective, I'd highly reccommend a HIT training protocol. Almost anything written by Stuart McRobert, Peary Rader, or even some of Mike Mentzner and Ellington Darden's early works will stear you in the right direction.

Also, if fat loss is your primary goal, I'd recommend adding 2 or 3 15-20 minute sessions of interval based cardio in the mix. If your conditioning is pretty good and you're feeling squirly, Tabata Training will do wonders for fat loss.

If your on the road quite a bit, kettlebells are a great but unfortunatley expensive cardio modality. I'm always hauling kettlebells into hotels when I'm away from home. Furthermore, kettlebell complexes are typically much more entertaining than traditional cardio.

Don't forget that if your training is abreviated your kCal. totals are probably going to have to go a bit lower than what most of the 20 set/5 hours of LISS Cardio a week proponents consume. I'd highly recommend keeping a jar of Beverly's MP or UMP on hand at all times and you may want to incorporate something like Muscle Synergy, Density, or Mass and Ultra 40 to aid in lean mass preservation. Quadracarn seems to be working wonders as well for fat loss and lean gain.

Johnathon,
I appreciate your response as you are right about his appearance. He is data driven and I belived he even teamed up with John Little in one of his programs, but I have yet seen anyone compete using his theories, or at least I have not heard of anyone!
