I have been training for my next powerlifting competition on June 28. Yesterday, I tweaked my lower back again. I am attemting to reduce inflammation with ice and heat therapy, and will see my massage therapist tomorrow. Is there anything else that I can do (supplement or training wise) to prevent further aggrevation of this muscle? I will only do light weights this week and see what happens, but I am so close to this competition, I need to avoid injury. Suggestions?

I sprained my spinal erectors back in late April.
I am still not pushing my limits on deadlifts, squats, and the other compounds that involve hip flexion/extension... Something that will be very important is to find out if your injury is only in the muscle tissue or whether cartilege/bone is involved. I was told that the former requires around 6 weeks to rehab, and if it is the latter (like me) it can take six months or more before it is right.... This info came from a long-time friend of mine who is a chiro and PT. I am also working with a strength coach to at least keep me maintaining as we try to be kind to my spinal erectors. We still do RDLs, OHS, and some of the other fun stuff....just lighter for more reps and sets. Not sure what to do in your circumstances being 3 weeks from comp... ---------- Learning the Game... |

Being 3 weeks out, continue therapy and evaluate in 10 days. If you have problems with 80% scrap the competition and wait for the next one. Maybe it is a pinch or maybe it is some muscle tears. If it is just that pinch, no other damage, you should be reset in 10 days or so.

Thanks for the input. I went to the massage therapist, and he got things lined out as well as we could. I will try to go back to him tomorrow and see how things are progressing. It is a bummer to be this close, but we will just see how it goes and go from there. Getting record numbers is going to do me no good if I have to spend 6 months in pt to make up for it. It does seem to be just in the muscle and not bone or cartilage (thankfully), so here's hoping that I will be good to go soon. Thanks again for the help!
