I have a female friend who used to BB and figure shows and she is trying to help me get ready to do a show. I am working on losing fat and gaining some lean muscle as well. We have to communicate through email so she can only offer so much advice. She said that after I train a muscle I should flex and practice posing because it will help train my muscle quicker. Does anyone have any good article links on what poses to do? Thanks!

I'd suggest going through the mandatory poses at the end of each workout or if you're so inclined, you could even hit the poses specific to the exercise after each set (e.g. barbell curl to front and rear double bicep). Try to hold the poses for at least 10 seconds. 1. Front Double Bicep. 2. Front Lat Spread. 3. Side Chest (Left and Right Side). 4. Side Tricep (Left and Right Side). 5. Rear Double Bicep. 6. Rear Lat Spread. 7. Ab and Thigh. 8. Most Muscular. Perfect Posing is a good video to pick up if you're not 100% sure on the poses...I think there are even some posts on Youtube. Either way I'd suggest you practice and get the posing down. There's nothing worse than seeing a bodybuilder at a show who's in phenominal shape and doesn't know how to pose correctly and/or has a terrible tan. "I've been to every city in Mexico. I came across an unclaimed piece of meat in Baja, turned out to be Rosie. I guessed he picked a knife fight with somebody better. Hi Stephanie…I also suggest hitting the poses specific to the exercise after each set as Jonathon mentioned…I would certainly pose in front of the mirror but as your competition gets closer start posing without the assistance of the mirror. Practice your mandatory poses so you are able to do them in your sleep! Here is a little advice that 2 time World Champion Dave “Texas Shredder” Goodin gave me a few years ago during pre-judging at the Pro International (where I place just behind him) “stay tight and hard even when you think the judges are not looking at you”…in other words as long as you are on the stage assume the judges are looking at you. The number one stance you need to have nailed down is the front relaxed stance. It’s the first stance the judges see so don’t neglect it. If you are in condition and are a good poser you will stand out. Jeff

Ain't no doubt! If you miss it, you're history. Abs should always be crisp in this stance because abs will show conditioning to judges. If you don't show them in that first stance, they will bypass you every pose. Frank "Lift and be happy. Lift harder and be excited...Get Excited, Get Big!!!"
