Are there any drawbacks to women taking creatine? I had heard that it makes you retain a lot of water.

Thanks for any input.

no issues with women taking creatine

Also, some lower grade creatines may make you bloat. I've used Bev's Creatine Select with no bloating.

FitDevil,

If you are taking a pure form like Creapure from Germany or Creatine Select from Bev, and a few others the only water you should retain would be in the muscle.

I suppose creatine can cause subcantaneous fluid but if you arent competing why worry. And besides many competitors load creatine going into their show with no problems.

I suppose just give it a try. It will help your strength and your muscles should feel fuller.

Creatine does not affect men any different than women.

However, it is fair to point out that an increase in scale weight is likely. Women tend to be sensitive to changes in the scale number and may get concerned. Initial gains will be water, long term will be muscle. Both translate to a better workout and increased metabolism. So it is not fat weight.

I have tried Creatine (Bev) countless times..results are always the same. I immediately gain two-three pds and get bloated in the gut..and tummy ache (and an unmentionable..) . I stay on it awhile then go off and immediately drop the added pounds of water. I guess if it were not for the discomfort I may add muscle staying on it. So I guess all you can do is give it a try..most gals I know haave no problem with it.

Thanks for your input LT. That may scare me off. I have problems with my gut anyway. The last thing I need is a belly ache on top of my existing belly ache!

are many women using creatine when they train? I am wanting to develop my shoulders and nothing else seems to work for me. I have had cramping the first time I tried creatine but if it will help then maybe I will try it again.

Gwen-
Have you tried using Bev's Muscle Synergy? It's amazing and I have had zero negative side effects from it. The stuff is amazing! Has creatine in it. I didn't get great results from just creatine but have had noticeable increases in strength and size using Synergy.

That's the one where you take 6 in the morning and 6 in the evening or something like that...I used it for contest but I was not on it now. I am looking to build shoulders and I will try it. I still have some left from the last contest.
