maltodextrin is a low glycemic carb source as far as I know.
Drinking MP alone may create a slightly higher insulin spike than say adding cream or flax since it will digest quickly, but it should be no where near the spike from a high glycemic carb source like dextrose. Jason-- Jason Theobald www.geocities.com/chezburger10/JASONTHEOBALDBIO.html |

So would it be best to add flax or creme to my shakes? I haven't been doing that.

well, it depends on your goals and when you are having the MP.
If you are drinking it after workout then dont add any fats as you want a fast absorption. If you are drinking it as a meal replacement of sorts then you could add the fats. Are you following a plan sent to you by beverly. If so then just follow that for maximal results. If not, then I see no problem with adding flax or cream. 1 tbs of flax = 2tbs of cream roughly. A nice shake on a fat loss plan would be 2 scoops of MP, 1 tbs of flax, and 4 frozen strawberries mixed together in a blender. jason-- Jason Theobald www.geocities.com/chezburger10/JASONTHEOBALDBIO.html |

Actually maltodextrin has a very high glycemic index score. It is near 100 (maybe higher). However, given that MP also contains fat and protein, one would expect the overall GI of the shake to be lowered. Adding other macronutrients to a high glycemic food will lower its index, but the amount will vary.

Well I retract my statement. I always thought malto was low glycemic and slower digesting and dextrose was high glycemic and faster acting. Thus the debates over the high glycemic post workout shakes. Someone posted to use malto and dextro mixture. And I figured since Mass Maker contains malto then it was lower glycemic. Can you explain this better for me??? Thanks,

Muscle Provider has an extremely low, in fact irrelevant amount of Maltodextrin. In fact it is not really there for nutritional content. It is primarily there because it helps the Muscle Provider mix well in water. A food chemist cannot just put some proteins into a bottle and that's it. Above and beyond the filtration, sometimes you have to have something like maltodextrin in the formula for the mixture to be possible.
Now, lets address the Glycemic issue. The glycemic index charts are based on the body's response to 25 grams of any particular carb source with an absence of any other protein or fat. The amount of maltodextrin in Muscle Provider is so low, that it is not even the source of the 2 grams of carbs you see per scoop. That is simply inherent in the protein. It just so happens that 16 grams of this protein blend will yield 2 grams of carb. Just like 23 grams of protein from Egg whites will yield a carb or two. So regardless of the glycemic index of maltodextrin, it is not relevent in this case. Simple cheap grade maltodextrine is usually considered a sugar. However Beverly uses a Penta-Saccharide Maltodextrin which is a complex carb and is glycemically lower. Yes, even carb sources like maltodextrin can come in 5 grades, and yes Beverly always uses the top grade. |

Booker,
Thank you. I feel much better now after reading your post. I did take Jason advice and I added flax oil to my shake and I don't get shaky after drinking it now. It seems to stay in my system longer. So thank all of you for you feedback. Thanks Lisa |
