Just started with the creatine select a week ago and love it. I was wanting a grapefruit today but think I remember something about it negating the effects of creatine. Can someone enlighten me if this is true and why. Does it matter if the grapefruit is consumed hours after the creatine say at lunch?

What I have heard is that grapefruit will make your body more sensitive to digestion of certain medications and other drugs taken in pill form. But, I remember it as saying it made the digestion better, not worse, or more stronger.
I also know that its a mild diuretic so that would diminish the effects somewhat, but so would a glass of tea or coffee. If thats all it is then just add extra water.
Lara posts an interesting question. I'll share my experience with creatine and grapefruit.Last week, 3 days prior to my show, The NBI/USA,I consumed half a grapefruit with each of my 6 meals. I also began loading with Creatine Select as per the instructions of Roger Reidinger, after E-mailing him, concerning my diet strategy for the final few days. Come show day, I was harder, fuller, and attained a massive pump during the pre-judging. I also experienced no water retention. First time in over 8 years of competition, and 37 shows, that I had ever loaded with creatine the final week.Usually load up on fat and red meat with grapefruit as only carb source. Although this works for me, one should experiment to discover their own effective protocol. If anything, the Creatine Select + grapefruit worked just as Roger predicted
Hope this helps Aram H

I have to completely agree with Aram. That is what can happen. You get one writer or a research group that they think they find some relation to creatine and less progress when taken with caffeine and everyone thinks that it is a bad combo.
Truth is in the real world I dont think there is anything with grapefruit and creatine. Myself including thousands of other athletes have taken the combo and havent missed a beat. Sometimes a study doesnt work unless it is tested over time on alot of people. That is why products like Ultra 40 and Mass have been around forever, because they are time tested and work with about everyone, not some fad or i.e. new research study.
About 8 years ago when the first Creatine vs Caffeine studies came out, I was getting ready for my first bodybuilding show. I was reading all this stuff in the Magazines and got worried because I would drink coffee and take creatine at the same time. So I called Roger and he said "Are you taking in Creatine and Caffeine?" I said yes, and then he asked "Is it working?" And I said yes and he said, "I think that's your answer". No matter what you read about in a study, remember that results in the real world are all that matters. Just like Aram's experience in the real world with creatine and grapefruit. Thousands of people have used the grapefruit and creatine at the same time, and both work.
