Which bev protein powder is the best to use directly after lifting?? Is it a myth that you need a shake within an hour of lifting?

Also, when a bev diet says "4 ultra 40s with each meal" does that include my mid-morning and mid-afternoon shakes too or just my 3 whole food meals?

I'm also confused as to how much protein/carbs/fat I really need in my diet and I'm not a math person, so seeing ratios confuses me. I'm a 5'2, 118 Ib female who wants to add muscle and lean out more in my midsection.
There--those are my bev questions for now. Any feedback is greatly appreciated!!

What source do you get your glutamine from, and why did bev choose the fats such as borage oil, sunflower oil instead of various other healthy fats for your protein powders?

ReBeKaH,

Which protein is best after training can depend on the goal.

Muscle Provider is always a great choice pre/post training…no matter the goal. It contains fast acting proteins that get aminos in your system super fast. It’s great for recovery, strength, energy and fat loss. It’s the absolute best quality blend of whey and egg protein available. You can never go wrong here – probably the best choice for you.

UMP can also be used pre/post training. If you’re looking for just one protein you can use for everything…meal replacement, before bed, pre/post training, etc., UMP is an awesome choice. It has 80% slow digesting proteins that stick with you and feed you a time released supply of aminos; and 20% fast acting proteins like MP that will get aminos into your system right away. MP will be better before and after training because the higher percentage of fast acting proteins, but again, if you can only buy one protein, UMP will work great.

Mass Maker alone or in combination with Ultra Size is often used pre/post training for those looking to gain weight (yet stay fairly lean), improve recovery after intense training or sports activity and/or have a high metabolism. Mass Maker has a great protein blend, awesome complex carbs and added electrolytes. By adding Ultra Size too, it gives you a super charged high protein and high carb drink for increased weight gain.

Some would say that you need to get a shake in or eat within an hour after lifting or you miss the “window of opportunity”. Although I do recommend a post training shake (for you MP) or meal filled with quality protein, I don’t necessary think you’ve lost an opportunity to build muscle or lose fat if you don’t have it in that exact time frame. You should look at your nutrition as a 24 hour window of opportunity to get the proper nutrients in for building muscle and losing fat…not just an hour or so after training. If you are eating every 3 hours or so and feeding yourself proper protein and nutrients all day long you should have success with your goals.

Check out No Nonsense Newsletter Volume 12, Number 3 for info on how to choose the right Beverly protein for you.

Ultra 40 should be taken with all food meals and shake or snack meals.

The amount of calories needed will vary per person. There are a lot of contributing factors…age, current condition, metabolism, calories in diet leading up to an updated plan, time frame in which you want to achieve goals, etc. For your weight and goal I recommend you start with a calorie range of 1550-1800 calories, depending on the factors above. If you have a higher metabolism, you’ll need more calories. If you are older, have a slow metabolism, etc., you may need a little less. 50% of those calories should come from protein, 20% from complex carbs and 30% from fats. A calculator can help you determine the calories from each and then the grams of each needed per day. Calories should be split into 5-6 small meals/shakes per day.

I thought somewhere I read not to take Muscle Synergy with Glutamine Select as they compete for digestion, is that true, or was that another combination? I have been trying to space them out a bit, but sometimes its hard to do with my work schedule.

Thanks!

No competition with Glutamine and Muscle Synergy. Actually, the very first formulation of Muscle Synergy had glutamine in it. Because a pharmaceutical company received a patent on the formulation we were forced to remove it. Most people take Glutamine Select and Creatine Select along with the Muscle Synergy for max results.

WHOAA!!!! There is that wheat gluten again. Wheat gluten is the nutritional equivilant of styro-foam... but styro-foam has less calories.

Anyways, there are various sources of glutamine. The best sources come from animal sources (muscle bellies), or Cottage cheese, or other dairy sources. Casein is chalkfull of glutamine. That is usually the best source!

Also, I do have a question about Beverly Supplements that has not been answered. Why doesn't Beverly put back the Beef Peptide back into their Ultra Size and Mass Maker???? Is it cost?? The original forumla of Ultra Size had THE BEST protein profile EVER, now it is basically UMP with more efa's? Thanks.

Here is my question:
I am currently in the 'off-season' for the first time. Competed in 5 figure shows from March through October and used all Bev products.
Now, I realize I need to add clean calories, lift heavy, and continue to grow all while keeping the bodyfat gains to a minimum. That said, here is what I would like to know:
What supplements should I be incorporating now? During contest prep and actual competition my stack looked like this:
2 Lean Out
3 Muscularity
2-3 Ultra 40 w/ each of 5 meals
Also: 6 GH am and pm
4-6 Synergy prior to weight workout
UMP, MP, US, use rotated based on meal time and protein needs during the day.
I ate approx. 1700 cals/day during this time period, and am now up to around 1900.
Thanks for the answer(s).

proteinabuser,

The glutamine in Glutamine Select is a form of pharmaceutical glutmaine, which is a superior source. It sounds like you may be confusing it with wheat peptides, which have no connection in any way to Glutamine Select.

Hi Nadine.

WOW…5 shows is a lot of shows. How were they?

To gain lean mass and strength during your off season program I recommend the basic stack below:

Mass with each meal in place of Muscularity
Ultra 40 with each meal
Muscle Synergy twice a day
UMP as meal replacement and if you like a pre bedtime shake and/or Muscle Provider post training

I would also look at adding:

Glutamine Select for improved strength, recovery, endurance and fat loss and possibly Creatine Select for more help with muscle gain and strength increasing.

Save your Lean Out, GH, Muscularity – your fat loss products until closer to your next show or when you have more of a fat loss/muscle retention focus again.

Rachel,

Perhaps you can move this over to a part for FAQ?

A lot of people don't know there is a pdf explaining in some detail about all of the supplements. Maybe that can be added to FAQ, too?

As for Beverly products, most of us had known that Beverly intended to use most of the products all the way to the day of the show, providing much needed vitamins, minerals that would be lacking in a whole food diet (some products need to be stopped at certain times simply because of the body's reaction).

Before I used Beverly, my trainer, a very well known promoter/nutritionist, advised me NOT to take any supplements because they would blur my definition.

Thanks Rachel,
I am going to try the Creatine. Forgot to say that I use Glutamine Select w/ each and every workout, it's great........when dieting for a show, it also works to stop hunger between meals too.

Rachel - Thanks for asking for input; another example of why I like Beverly - continually trying to improve and satisfy your customers.

As Frank said, I think all of the info is out there, just finding it can be tough. Maybe if you had a simple wizard that would be on the homepage that asked a series of basic questions, ending in recommended work out plan(s), diet and supplements (and why/when they should be used) would help. This could also be a nice marketing tool (I looked briefly to see if your competitors have one and didn't find it)

Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the input. While I don't think it's exactly what you were talking about, we do have the Search Beverly tool. Check it out at the link below.

http://www.bevnut.com/search/

Also, I would like to add:

http://www.beverlyinternational.net/
This website is made of text only pages, allowing anyone to sort quickly through
"The Beverly Network" hence the .net. Beverlyinternational.net is divided into
previous issues of the Newsletter and Journal by issue/volume.

Also, an alphabetic listing of the authors of articles as well (being updated).

Another way to find your way is our site map (which is being updated too):
http://www.bevnut.com/sitemap/index.html

Then, the latest project is the expansion of bevnut.com,
which there will be "quick links" for example:

bevnut.com = main pages to everthing Beverly related
bevnut.com/board - quick link to the discussion board
bevnut.com/search - quick link to search
bevnut.com/sitemap - as mention before
bevnut.com/store - quick link for the Beverly Online Store
bevnut.com/supplements - listing of a Beverly International Supplements

Skip the "www" just type bevnut.com/some_location

More quick links will being added. They
will be linked on the bevnut.com page soon.

No, the UMP Vanilla won't be changed to the older formula. Sorry to hear you don’t enjoy it. It’s my personal fave! The response to the new UMPV formulation is overwhelmingly positive. In fact, it’s our most popular vanilla protein powder overall, our second most popular product overall (second to Muscle Provider Chocolate) and the first several months after the change we had trouble manufacturing enough to meet the demands.

People love their UMP Vanilla.
