first of all i went home and looked at the tape of the show. i just dont understand what was wrong with the judges.this was my first show and it showed me how things are not fair.i do not want to sound like i have tears in my eyes.when you look at the person that placed 2 place in the open heavyweight class and you look at me i out classed him.i had more size than him also i think i was the most ripped on stage.my back was off the chain, tummy was on point, arms are huge.yes the winner of the open heavyweight out classed me.he was more relaxed on the satge but still i was bigger.will maybe next year i will win this show.but if any one has any feed back please pour it on me because i dont want to feel like it was all for nothing. yes be happy i placed third.i try and tell my self but i just feel like it was not right,

Please do not type in all CAPS...

I posted in another thread about what I thought of the judging. The people who judged this show should be embarassed. I didn't stay for your class, but did they call all mandatory poses for everyone who got called out in the heavy-weight? They didn't in most of the other classes and it disrespects every athlete on stage. When the judges decide to stray from the rules & regulations of the NPC, they lose all credibility and respect from the athletes and audience. I will never encourage another athlete from my city or even state to compete in that show. It may be one of the biggest shows around here, but it will become the biggest joke & fraud if it is judged like this in the future. I'm still in awe at how the pre-judging was done. They knew way ahead of time that there was gonna be that many people in the show. Why do you have a novice division at a national qualifier, they can't get qualified unless they cross-over to the open? So you end up having the same guys in both divisions taking up twice as much time. Mr. Bradley I can't comment directly on your class, but if it was like the others I'm sure there was some serious misfortunes done to some of the competitors. No one will ever convince me that the judges did the best they could, never. This is the first show I've ever been to where I thought numerous people were not given a fair look and I would be absolutely embarassed if I judged that show.

Steve - Congratulations on coming into the show in good condition. It sounds to me like you did a great job in preparing for the show - you should be proud of that fact and feel good about the level of conditioning that you were able to obtain.

When it comes to judging - it can be very subjective by it's nature. You are judged on appearance, symetry, presentation and other related factors. I was not at the show and have not seen any photos or tapes - so I have no opinion one way or the other about the placings - but as someone who has been a local NPC judge I can tell you that it is not easy especially in a big show with a lot of competitors in each class. Someone has to be first, second and third and only one person can be each. I have competed myself for many years and have come to the conclusion that I am competing against myself up there and no one else. If I have improved and if I was the best that I thought I could be then I won no matter how I placed. That is not to say that I don't enjoy placing high - but if I don't I do not loose sleep over it as long as I know that I gave it my best effort.

As I said - you should be proud of your dedication and effort - if you really feel that it was all for nothing just because you did not place higher then you are setting yourself up for many more disappointments down the road. Your self satisfaction should come from your knowing that you did your best to be your best. No one can measure that accept you and no one can take that away from you.

I hope that you get over your disappointment and continue to compete. It can be a great experience if you look at it from the right perspective. Good luck in meeting your future goals.

well if you have a chance to take a look at the pictures once they are posted please do so.it was several intances where the judges were so off point it was embarassing.the top 5 was never called out the top 5 in pre-judging.heavy weight class did 2 sets of mandatories and that was it.this was a show that had so many competators that the pre-jusding was over at 4:30pm and the show ran well over 12:30am.i think all involved deserved so much better andi really want to know who these judges were and how they judges,it was not based on the npc rules.npc rules states if it is over 15 in class judges call out the first 15,they had over 30 in light heavy.
i really want to understand!!!

Hi All,
I came from New Jersey to view this show because of my interest in competing.I agree with Mr Bradley.I left this show early because I was so disgusted with the womens figure portion.I have never seen a show that suppose to be run by professional judged like this. The women overall winner won only because she had the biggest implants ever seen by human eye(no disrespect to winner she was a beautiful girl)but not a figure standout next to the other winners in the figure class. One girl is on her way to nationals and it showed she was awesome and the crowd was behind her 200%.I can not understand this at all.I will make sure not to compete in a show that does not judge on the overall competetor(this was so embarassing) and a slap in the face to the women that spends every working day in the gym preparing for these shows.
Please help me to understand what you were looking for in this show because it was not a good overall figure.
Also the show was so long it was not a well prepared show at all.
Sorry I have to be honest maybe the next event will be better. To you Steve continue to excel.I did not stay for your class because it was way too late but I know there was so many unjust rulings it made me ill.
Thanks

Another note on Eve's comments. I couldn't believe after she won the overall, she came out and was hugging several of the judges and talking to them. That was the tackiest thing I've seen at a BB or Figure show. It's fine if they're friend, but you should wait until the show is completely over to display that. You know how bad that makes her and the entire judging panel look? I'm gonna do everything possible to spread the word about this show and make sure people do NOT plan on entering next year. I'm still considering contacting the NPC office to explain all that happened. I used to be a judge and still have ties with them. This was the poorest display of judging I've witnessed at any NPC show in the past 13 years.

Hey Eve, I'm just glad I'm not the only one to speak up on here. The rules are plain and simple. But I bet they will say the show was a success. This was the biggest BS show I've ever seen. I'm not complaining about the placings 'cause I have no vested interest, even though many of them were unbelievable. The way the pre-judging was done was a complete mess and that's my biggest complaint.

Steve, I was the head judge on Saturday. Did you talk to any of the judges after the show? I know that not ONE person asked me any questions. Remember there are 9 judges not, 1. Judging is based on guidelines and personal opinions.

Hey I was in the tall class and I was wondering about what you were talking about. I need to put on muscle but I was just curious about the overall winner. I was suprized that #40 didn't win either. She had a great body and basically looked like a pro. This was my first competition and I finished 11th out of 14 in the tall class. I am really easy to identify, the only african american in the tall class (smile). Since I have never been in a show before what do you think were the problems?

Well Steve, to be honest with you. I was at the show and from what I saw the fans will not miss much.
Instead of complaining maybe you should look at it as great learning exp. since it was your first show. I don't understand why if everyone was so upset with judging why only ONE person went and talked to the judges about the results!
Since you didn't go and talk to the judges afterwards how do you know what you should improve on for the next time?

In response to Eve. I think it is very unfair of you to make that statement about "not having a chance" because you didn't hug the judges. That is BS if I ever heard it. Please give credit where credit is due. The girls that won deserved to win because of hardwork and dedication. I'm sorry Eve did you compete?

All shows are learning experiences. Steve, since this is your first show, you've now learned you can go talk to the judges, and you should.

I had one judge tell me my legs were too soft. WOAH! I flexed, "Are you sure?!!" He said, "That's not what you showed me on stage."

If you're not posed, flexed and set in the mandatories, man...they're going to skip right over you. You need to be set as soon as you stop walking to your position. Also, there's no relaxed mode. EVER.

I don't know the extent of your body building experience, but when it comes time toward the end of a big list, judges are going to be ready to go and you had better be ready to be set for posing and not waste on split second.

I waited until 12:30 AM after the contest to talk to the judges. I had to travel 4 hours to get to work at 5AM, so do what you have to do.

I wasn't there, so I can't tell you what went wrong, if anything went wrong. Pictures won't tell me because it is about 1/60 of a second. Someone may have not been flexing their best at that time.

Frank

There's no reason whatsoever to think this is the norm. You need to see from other competitors, make some friends with those placing higher. It has been my experience they/we help each other. Very few try to knock you down. If you walk around with your head high, you'll definitely get knocked down.

Try another contest. Don't walk away from this. Maybe you're thick, but you didn't present yourself well, your posing may have been off. Find out by asking some of the top guys. Heck, I thought I had it in my first contest. I saw the tape and FORGET IT!! I posed terrible. Others said I looked good, but after my learning experience in the first year, I went back to check out improvements, I laughed. I called myself a joke and sure, I looked good, for a person walking on the beach but my posing...well, I can't use those words. LOL

You need to do at least two more contests this year.

Frank
