I am going to do it. This will be my first show after a 5 year lay-off and my intro into an organization other than the NPC.

I have another client of mine doing the show along with a few others that I know of!

The website says noon! I am expecting a small show so I wouldnt be late if you planned on going to the prejudging.

Two years ago I went to a show in the same organization and the evening show lasted two hours!

I know its more geared towards modeling and what not, but what I like to see is progression over the years and a diet and nutrition section, might as well explain how you maintain such conditioning all year, or at least a general idea.

You look great in the modeling pics good luck with it.

When I kick Aram's B00TIE...

Let's see, that should be about 2035 in the Beverly International Great-Grandfather's Classic.

I'm thinking about a contest in the natural federations perhaps the Fall. Right now, training is going good. I really have my eyes set for Spring of next year. Got to do it!

Beware of the ABA
I just competed in muy first and last ABA show. The show was a joke which casted shame to Natural bodybuilding. Some show highlights:
-2 judges total (maybe 3 1 guy was up and down and pulling double duty filming the show) for a pro qualifier. Forget judges books they simply huddled up and discussed who should place where.
-3 competitors total in the Open division. 8 total competitors including all divisions in the entire show
-Music was a boom box with a microphone duct taped to it (it could only play 2 of the competitors CD's. The rest had to pose to house music)
-The lighting consisted of painter spot lights purchased from the local hardware store
-The drug testing that they boast so much about is re-usable for a 60 day time frame. On top of that all competitors had to shell out an additional $50 for their unrine sample to absorb the cost of the show.
-The promoter/MC was flat out rude. Blaming the competitors for not telling others about the show. She also did not have an expeditor so she ordered all competitors to just line up and go.
-$25 for the day show and $25 for the night show. No wonder ther were 15 spectators total.
These are not exagerations. My wife took pictures of the rigged sound system and painter lighting. It will be the source of many good ab workouts to come from all the laughing
-save your money and do the NPC Natural Ohio on the 5th or the OCB shows in Indianapolis on the 31st of May and 13th of September

Shark,

I sure am sorry to hear that you had a bad experience competing in the ABA. I went to one of their shows in Indiana a few years back and actually liked it quite well.

I fully expect what you said and fully anticipate the experience you mentioned. I for one cant wait!!! This is a very special show to me because it marks the return from a long lay off from competing and entering back into the natural bodybuilding field for the rest of my life.

I am doing the show with one of my best friends who lost 80 lbs and if we are the only two competitors then so be it. We could have the contest in my house and I wouldnt care. After all of these years competing I have realized it is about the journey and the challenge it presents each person as a human than the show itself. You compete to compete against others but most importantly you compete to give yourself to something and give your all to something and grow as a human.

I have guest posed at Roger and Sandy's show, I have been in Manhattan on stage holding my own against Victor Martinez and Troy Alves in crowd bigger than the Northern in front of the most influential people in the entire sport and I am looking forward to this tiny, tiny show more that I am the NPC Nationals.

I will not judge this show by the size, the lighting or any of the other reasons that you mentioned. If they have the worst show ever I still am excited because I will be the best I have EVER BEEN naturally.

If the ABA/INBA needs to improve and they are looking for ways to make their show better then this show will be a success! If it is run bad and they have no plans to make the organization better then this may be the only time I ever compete in the organization. I guarantee however I will do my best to help the ABA/INBA in anyway possible to further the cause of bodybuilding.

My friend did the Northern as his first show ever and took 12th out of 14th, from all accounts it was a failure. To him it was a SUCCESS! He was just like the ABA, but it is his desire to become a better bodybuilder each and every show. If the ABA is trying to become a better organization and doing their best to spread bodybuilding throughout the country then I applaud them!

Shows are all about how you want to look at them! Did you ever go to the Northern when it was at Peels Palace?

I had to step over cockroaches and broken beer bottles just to get on stage! Beverly was once where the ABA is and instead of making your complaints maybe you should be doing something to better the sport.

I am sorry you had a bad experience but one thing is for certain; this is the beginning of a new career for me, I will show up in excellent shape and be very tough to beat. I will have alot of people there to watch me, I will put on an excellent show and we will throw one fun and wild party at my house afterwards!

Sorry for venting but sometimes people overlook what Bodybuilding is all about.

I grew up in a small town in the middle of nowhere in Minnesota, population 3000. The guy who is a local legend and owns a small gym put on his first show last year in Sleepy Eye, MN with a few competitors, a few spectators and the contest was held in his gym!

Was it a failure? It all depends on how you look at things, to him it was a dream come true and success in his eyes! He is getting ready to hold his 3rd show with more competitors than the first two times and more buzz and people coming to attend!

Your show was just last week, maybe you should come down to Florence, KY and compete in the show with us?

Jeremiah, Amen to everything you wrote... except for the part about Minnesota... I still don't like the Vikings. But in all seriousness, great post.
