df - There is a VHS tape available called perfect posing, it provides for a decent overview of the basics. You should be able to find it for about $25.

Try to hook up with someone who has or still does compete and who has a reputation of being a good poser. Having a little one on one coaching time with someone like that can be extreamly helpful.

Most people do not really spend a ton of time on posing practice until the last 6 weeks or so, and mostly towards the show. If, however, this is your first time you might want to get some of the basics down early so that you can measure your progress through your appearance doing the mandatory poses.

When to start and how much to practice can be answered by this statement: You need enough practice time so that posing becomes second nature and so that 99% of the time you will hit the pose correctly and in a way that shows your physique to it's best advantage. If you can hit the pose with your eyes closed, then open your eyes and have it look exactly the way you want it to look then you are ready.

Good posing is in fact very important. It is good that you recognize that. Good luck.

Either Craig or Joe would both be excellent posing coaches for you. If you are an hour away from them you should most certainly hook up with one of them, it would be well worth your effort and any modest cost for thier time. These two guys both really understand good posing and how to coach.

That is a good road trip for you and your girlfriend. She would probably find it interesting and would better understand what the competiton was about by being an observer for your practice.
