I have my sights set on March 19, 2005 for the Northern Kentucky Contest. If my counting skills serve me correctly I believe that makes it 16 weeks away from this Saturday, Nov. 27.
I will be competing in Bodybuilding, lightweight. I started my pre-pre contest diet this past Monday and plan to eat moderately on Thursday then no more screwin around!! Anyone else gearing up for this? Shred Betty |

I am considering entering myself. It would be my first figure show ever! Would you recommend it as a good show for a first timer? I also have started to really tighten up my diet as I counted backward as far as weeks til competition. Luckily Thanksgiving really doesn't do much for me. Christmas on the other hand.....

This is one of the best shows in the Midwest and I would highly reccomend it to anyone even considering competing! The show is run like a National show and everything from the venue to the expeditors to the stage setup is first class.
It was a fun show to compete in and even more fun to watch. If you had to pick just one show to compete in next year - IT SHOULD BE THE NORTHERN! Good Luck! Julie Lohre |

I am just worried that I might be a little intimidated using a big show for my first competition!

Magster- Great you are thinking about your first competition! The NOrthern will not be my first competition but I understand your jitters about your first one. You probably feel like there are so many unknowns and you don't know where to start. Well that's why this board is here and someone will answer your questions every step of the way. I've used Beverly for my past competitions and they make it so easy with pre-contest prep they leave little for you to worry about.
As far as it being to big of a show for your first one...no way! I have attended the northern before and can say it is very organized and well put together. Your mind set going into any size competition HAS to be that YOU did everything possible to get you to that stage...and no matter how you place you have to feel that you achieved your goal of getting on that stage looking awesome. You will be successful no matter what as long as your attitude stays positive. I can't explain how much you will learn from your first comp, but you will take all of that to your future comps and just keep imporving. You lean a heck of a lot about your body going thru this process!!! It is extremely gratifying when you are on stage comp night with family and friends cheering you on! Contest prep is not easy by any means but in the end is well worth it! Good luck to you and hope to see you at the Northern Shred Betty |

One thing I wanted to add is although the contest is big in numbers I dont want to that to intimdate or hold anyone back from competing.
Many people use the Northern for their first contest. I cant tell you the exact percentages but you will not be alone. If you are thinking of doing a show in the spring it is a mistake not to do the Northern. It is the perfect contest for firstimers. You know there will be others like you and you will be treated like an all star. |

Mussy- I've competed for the NPC before and the comp suits are similar to the other federations. I'm pretty sure you can't wear a thong but that's about it...just the standard two piece cross in back deal. I have CJ make mine as some of the others here do as well.

Thanks Shred Betty. Dont have to worry about the g-string for me. Do they have to be solid color? I just had the basic black last season and would like to have something diff. Is it expensive to have them made?

They do not have to be solid color. But as I'm sure you know, the less your suit detracts from your body the better. For prejudging I wear a solid dark color and for the night show I've worn a darker color as well with a shimmer in it. CJ has sweet materials and if you get in touch with her she'll send you some samples if you have a color in mind. They range in price depending on the material and you can get stones and stuff on them, but I've paid about $120-150 for both suits...70 bucks a piece. It's pricey but they fit awesome!

thanks for the info. I'll definitely contact her. how early would you recommend contacting her prior to the show? this is my first time preparing for any competition and really dieting like a figure/bb person. I am unsure as how my body measurements etc. will change. Any suggestions?
Thanks Maggie |

She's gets booked quickly so you want to call her now to get a spot. She'll ask for your measurements and what weight you are aiming for contest day and even though it's a few months off the suit will fit you perfectly contest day. I've never had a problem with the fit..she does a great job.

Magster,
I am planning on competing in Figure at the Northern this year as well. I did one small show last year, and I don't think the size is as important as how well it is organized so that you FEEL like you sort of know what you are doing (even if you don't). Also, the girls were very helpful and actually gave me tips - maybe because I wasn't much of a threat? I was surprised at how helpful everyone was. You are probably ahead of me in prepping. Although I started trying to clean up my diet early, I had a few setbacks (a 30 page term paper was a bit distracting). Worst of all, after having done very well for a few weeks, I got mono in early November and couldn't work out for three weeks! (Dr's orders) and so now here I am 16 weeks out and feel like I'm starting from scratch. I also let myself indulge a little bit at Thanksgiving, which wasn't so good considering I wasn't working out. So, Monday I started the "Fit Figure" workout and am going to do it for the full 12 weeks if it doesn't kill me. Heading to the gym for workout#3 in about 20 minutes - legs are my fav! I'm approx 18% bodyfat now, so I've got my work cut out for me but I refuse to give up on this goal! Feel free to contact me directly and we can help to keep each other on track for our first big show!!! Kel |
