Had thoughts previously to do a competition but life got in my way, college, divorce, moving from Delaware to Illinois etc. Then (duh) it hit me LIFE will always get in the way, just gotta do it, if its what you want to do. So with knees shaking already I'm gonna do this..
Saturday, November 6, 2004 the 2004 NPC Natural Mid-States Muscle Classic in Rockford IL.
As I sit here looking at my countdown clock that says 104 days, 11 hrs, 6 min and 25 seconds, I wonder where to start.... Thankfully I have some online buddies that have competed previously to help with all my questions....
Congratulations on taking the plung! It will be a very interesting experience for you and you will learn a lot about BBing and yourself. Competing brings a whole new dimension to the fitness and BBing lifestyle that you can't experience unless you do it.
There are a lot of folks here who can help answer your questions. If you have not done so already take some time to do searches on the various topics that you want to know more about. The search function works very well for that.
You are starting early with your prep and planning so that is a very good thing. It is best when you do not have to rush The ideal is to be contest ready 1-2 weeks before the actual contest day. If you accomplish that you can cruise right into the last week with much less stress and anxiety.
Let us know how we can help and support you in your contest prep. Good luck.

Tom House the contact info is at www.kevinnoble.com - however he is not very quick to update his site. I have a copy of an application and I'd be more than happy to send you one if you'd like to send me an email to kim_botdorf@yahoo.com with an address I'll get one out to you right away. Just put something like Tom from Beverly site in the subject line so I don't delete it :O)

Tim I will probably be in the heavyweights. There is no novice category for this show so my first show out and I'm gonna have to be in open. Then its broken down by lightweight 115 1/4 or less, middleweight above 115.25 to 125 1/4, then heavyweight is anything above 125.25.
I'm not an expert on the BF thing but right now at 144 I'm 14.2% so I think getting myself below that 125 mark might be quite difficult and for my frame I think I'd look pretty sickly - I have seen results on others with Beverly and they have proven you can be 130 and in low BF ranges and look AWESOME!!
You'll know which one I am... I'll be the red head with her knees knocking from stage freight

VA Maddog - I am scared to death but excited about doing it too. I can handle the eating strict, the exercise till the cows come home, its the posing and routine that scare me... I am not an 'out there' kind of person, in that arena I am very shy but... that is gonna have to be something I get over.
I've wanted to do this since I saw my friend Tom Roehl do his first show and win - I sat there in the audience cheering him on and seeing the women up there thinking - you know I can do that..
Several of my on line fitness buddies have stated the same thing, you really want to 'be there' a week or so before the show so you can glide into that last week - so that is the advice I'm taking, prep now...
Thanks for the well wishes and I will certain read all I can between now and then...
Nice of you to offer John - you may want to PM or email her as the notification feature for threads is not working right now. It would be nice if more people who know how to pose would offer to help new competitors with posing.
I am not the worlds greatest poser, and probably need some more coaching myself, but I'm a lot better than I used to be and that is in part because someone who knew what they were doing helped me last year. Just last night I gave some coaching help to a friend who will be competing for his first time in about 7 weeks. Anyway - just wanted to give you a pat on the back for volunteering to help.

Been awhile since I've visited this board...I wish I would have seen your offer of assistance John! Thanks and if that offer would still stand... I will be competing again in 2005, possibly May, and could use the help.
I didn't come in as well as I hoped but hey no ones fault but mine, however it was a GREAT day and GRAND experience, one I won't forget anytime soon..

Congratulations.
Thanks FitDevil I felt like a champion that day, especially when I consider Jan 2002 I was a whopping 215 on a 5'6" frame! It really was one of the BEST days of my life!!

Wow you folks really are the best to offer up your personal assistance. My schedule is pretty whacked until after the Thanksgiving holiday if you'd like to set something up for after then I'd be very grateful.
by any chance were you in the Rockford show? I happen to be dating the guy that did the video and I could look for you once its all edited..
And if you are especially lucky John will start telling stories about the Golden age of Body Building. He really was there for some of it!
John - Do you have one of those shirts that says "Older than most trees?"
It is awfully gracious of people like John, Aram, Sully and a bunch of others here who will occasionally offer to help people meet their goals. This board is really a cool place to hang out - a great bunch of members who are almost always thoughtful, considerate and diplomatic.
I stop by at various other boards and with the possible exception of one other board (fitness and physique magazines forum) I find that this forum is clearly one of the best. No bashing, no borderline pornagraphy, no blatant AS usage discussions, just solid information exchange and a supportive environment.
