Has any one competed at the Flint, Michigan NANBF show? This will be my first year competing in a natural organization. I will be competing in figure. Any comments? Thanks, Carla
I competed in the bodybuilding back in June- it was well organized. The promoter was really cool- although I heard he was going to promote the OCB- not sure if that has happened. A great experience overall. I might be back there March 18th.
CB, I am the promoter of the NANBF Natural Southern States in Liberty MO (Kansas City. Dave Cammon is the promoter and is a really good person. He has been at it for over 15 years and does a great job.
One thing I can assure you of is that we do the most thorough drug testing of any organization. We test all athletes by Polygraph and collect urine from all competitors. We send all class winners and anyone that is suspect no matter of placing. Every contest is this way not just pro-qualifiers and this is the difference. You should research this before competing with other organizations. People ask me why we would drug test a figure competitor? Lets face no matter what it is people will do whatever it takes to win. Drugs like Clenbuterol which help keep you lean and hang on to muscle but not build large muscle for example. With no drug testing in figure we would open pandoras box. This would not be in keeping with our mission of a level playing field.
If you have never competed and need advice with what you need, suits, skin products diet or any thing else you can e-mail my wife Becky at natrlbuild@sbcglobal.net or call us at 816-781-9308
One thing that I can tell you is that you need to be in the 8-9% bodyfat range to do well. We do not want bodybuilder hardness but we do want to see shapely muscle and good symmetry. Work hard on your walking and stage presence as this can make or break you.
Also consider competing with us April 8th after the Flint show. You will be in good contest shape anyway after the Flint show. We have had the largest contingent in the NANBF with 38 figure competitors last year. It is shaping up well right now as well.

Oh, By the way Dave is not defecting to the OCB. He is one of our original organization officers. I have not heard anything of the sort and believe me, we are tight knit. Did you here this from the OCB or from an NANBF person? This will explain the here say if it was the OCB. They are trying their hardest to gain ground on us and have been doing somethings that are fairly ruthless. We are about the bodybuilder and not market share, that is the difference. Money is not our objective. Providing a Drug Free contest for those who do not want to deal with all the baggage of using drugs is our mission.
My apologies- I had the promoter mixed up with someone else! My diet is affecting my brain. The show was a great experience! Everyone involved was awesome and committed to the drug-free lifestyle.
You are thinking of Shannon Parker. He promotes both the NANBF and the OCB. There are distinct differences between the two promoters. Dave Cammon and Shannon Parker. One is very meticulous and detailed, caring greatly about his shows and the competitors. The other is very lax in his organization and sleep walks through his promoter duties. You competed in a Shannon Parker show if I am not correct.
There is a distinct pressure from the one of the organizations for Shannon to make a choice between the two. I will not sling mud at either organization, as I understand why they would want this. As for the promoter, he is trying to put on the best shows for the competitors with as much support from the sactioning bodies as he can.
Yes, that's it. Shannon Parker. He was great and was super involved in the whole show from my experience. I've only done 3 shows prior, but it was a great time. Not sure which organization is better or what- I'm just looking to compete in a legit natural organization since my feet are barely wet in the contest arena.
The show for April 29th in Flint is the NPC, the promoter for the OCB has a show May 6th in Ann Arbor. He is the same promoter that put on the Oct 29, 2005 show. Very well organized.
