Hi,

Iam 12weeks out from contest, My store has only 88% lean ground beef, I usually get lean ground turkey which is 97%. But I have no choice right now, so I wanted to know if 88% lean ground beef is ok to use

thanks

That's odd that a store would only have 88% lean ground beef. I would ask the manager to stock the product that you need, the lean turkey and 97-98% lean ground beef. I'll sure Frank, Chunky Butt, or JTheo will answer the question about the leanness but chicken and/or fish may be better than the high fat content of the ground beef.

I find it pretty odd that they would ONLY have 88% beef? That is just a weird number too??Don't use it. Mathematically, that is a LOT of fat no matter how you cook it. Stick with Tuna, Chicken Breast, ground Turkey, Eye Round steak, Top Sirloin cuts, LEAN BEEF SOURCES, Egg whites with a yolk... At 12 weeks out, you have a LOT of different lean protein sources that you can use.... but I wouldn't use the ground beef that your grocery store offers. Where do you live? What store is it? Is there a Super Wal-Mart near you? Even Super Wal-Mart has 93% Ground Beef, Ground Sirloin, or 96% Ground Beef.

Eye Round steak

I BBQ'd a large 3 pounder this weekend. Actually, I smoked it. Use San Francisco Steak Seasoning on it and be ready. GOOD STUFF.

After 3 hours, I cut it into steaks, then cubed it. Very tender.

I don't know if there's any left. LOL

As for any of the numbers on leanness, I have my doubts. I have picked up 94% and see a pan loaded with grease.

Buy eye of round, chicken breast or any meat, strip off the fat and use your own grinder. Works best every time.

There has to be another store around that carries something leaner. I actually go to two different places for things myself. Walmart has the hook up on all the condiments where as I go to meijer for all my meats.
