Hi Matt and welcome to the board. A good way to gain lean body mass without gaining body fat is to set your total calories at about 500 a day over what your maintenance level is. To figure out what that is (the amount of calories you eat and essentially stay at the same weight, don't gain, don't lose weight)you need to log everything that you eat for a week or so and then do the math to find out how many calories you ate and the macronutrient break down. You will need to estimate quantity to do this. Eating 5 or 6 smaller but nutritionally balanced meals a day will be an important factor for you. It allows your body to utilize it's food energy in the most efficient manner. You may want to cut back on your training to 3 or 4 days a week. If you are over training it will cause you to burn up muscle as energy, so you end up working against your goal of gaining more muscle mass. Do a search on this site for mass gain diets and also look at the main BI web site where they have a ton of articles posted on-line. You will find many examples of mass gaining diets that could work for you. Good luck in meeting your goals. VA MadDog | |||
