Alright, I screwed up and ate more than I should last night. I had my final meal of protein and then woke up 2 hours later and had about 12 oz more of chicken. Not horrible but I am on the twice weekly carb up meal. My question is if you over eat and take in over the amount of calories that you should, would you skip your upcoming carb up meal? My last carb up meal was Sunday night and the next one will be Wednesday night. So being that I went a little overboard on the eating and have excessive calories should I skip the carb meal for Wednesday and wait till Sunday??
I have been kicking myself all morning knowing that I screwed up. I know I need to just move on but how do I try to make up for my screw up. Tonight is squat night so I plan on killing myself while training and then adding in some cardio but what else should I do??? |

Yo Shortman....I would not skip the carb meal. At least you splurged on chicken, not a bad splurge. You need the carbs to replenish glycogen and to make sure protein gets transported to the muscle.
I don't think you are preparing for a show, so that being said, the extra calories are not super critical right now. If you have been dropping weight regulary on the fat burn, you might level out for a day or two since you added those extra cals. You could always do a little cardio to burn some of those cals, but I wouldn't worry about it. That's my 2 cents. Dwayne |

Sup Dwayne?
No, no contest in the works just tired of slipping up with my diet. Trying to be super strict with my diet just to see what I can do. I never eat junk food or foods off "the list" but I do tend to slip up and eat extra protein from time to time. I know I could eat worse but every time I slip up I am left wondering what I could do if I didn't slip up. Thanks for the reassurance... |

Shorty,
As Dwayne said have the carb up. It might be different had you cheated with 2-3 pieces of cake like Im known to do, but 12 oz of chicken, IMO if you arent precontest that is not by any definition a cheat. I feel as though, your body woke you up for a reason saying feed me. I dont think its a bad thing at all to add the extra protein when the body calls for it. I wake up in the middle of the night, but never hungry and I think its because I provide my body with ample calories during the day. Just my opinion. I am with the others. Have the carb up. When on the twice weekly carb up diet one of the worst things you can do is to skip or skimp ont he carb meal. It is there for a purpose, beyond a bump up in total calories. Never skip it. As far as a cheat, 12oz of chicken is nothing and will not hurt your progress. Don't sweat it. Extra protein from food is very unlikely to be converted and stored as fat. Heck it probably did the body good. I agree with Jason, if you woke up craving it you needed it. Ray |

Give it up, Shorty. Go with the PB. Actually, that's what I have been doing...again. I'm down from 189 and resting comfortably at 178.
"Luke...The PB is with you!" If you're afraid to go with the PB, make sure you have the carb up meal. Frank |

You might have a challenger to the PB king throne... Can you handle that??? lol... I hear you though bro and I appreciate the continued support that you and the other guys have always given me. Hope to one day meet all of you guys. Maybe at the Arnold this year? |

One more message of support Shorty. In the off-season an extra portion of protein is not going to do any harm, and is probably a good thing. If you were in the last 6 weeks of a contest prep diet you might want to look at a calorie drop in another meal to compensate, but there is no reason to do this off season. As the others said - keep the carb meal in - it is there for a separate reason and is more than "x" calories.
You did make me laugh - I was expecting some big nasty not good for you carb and fat splurge and you "own up" to an extra serving of chicken - lol Are you sure that you are telling us everything? That chicken wasn't smothered in hot fudge and ice cream was it? VA MadDog |

LOL... brother that was it just chicken. I don't touch things like you mentioned .... ever. Being someone that has struggled with my weight all my life (yeah like 300+) now that I am close to where I want to be I don't even allow myself to consider things like hot fudge, ice cream, pizza or any thing like that. A splurge for me is a big steak and sweet potato or maybe a low carb tortilla with ground turkey, salsa and fat free cheese. Well, I guess I did have a few Ultra's and 7 & 7's over the holidays. I keep telling myself once I get around 6% bodyfat I will let myself have a cheat meal like pizza or something but for now extra chicken or Muscle Provider is my cheat. |

Yeah, Shorty!!
Well, the PB was a phase. I do eat it most of the time. Last week, well, I went on a 5 jar binge. This week is more controlled. I've only had 1 since Sunday. My weight? I'm holding at 178-179. Still, very little cardio. YEAH!! We'll hook up sometime. Frank |

For one thing, it has to be done on a wheatless and lower carb diet.
I rarely eat wheat or a lot of the "bread" grains. It puffs me up and can give me that hangover feeling. I will use it sometimes to make other people around me feel "comfortable". Many times when they are around you, they will feel pressured into thinking they can't eat foods around you. I will eat PB between meals, with meals, etc. Use it before drinking a shake. Take 2 TBS. Or, if you're starving and want to eat, but can't or don't have the time, take two heaping spoons. Eat it slowing and enjoy it. About an hour later, when you have time to settle and cook, that's when the solid food follows. Try 2 16 oz jars for your first week. Then skip a week, and do it again. See how you'll feel, if you're gaining, etc. Monitor it and proceed. It may not work well for you, but that's why you try. Frank |

Do you think your PB approach would work with the twice weekly carb approach? I am only eating carbs on those days only. NO carbs except for veggies on the remaining 5 days.
2 jars in a week?? |

Yeah, Mike. Try a scoop (maybe 2 TBS) with one meal per day. Perhaps your shake.
Monitor 1 jar per week. See how you feel. Then add the 2nd jar 4 weeks later. Do the same. Monitor weight, proportions on how clothes are fitting you or if you can monitor BFC, even better. Are you going completely carbfree? Aren't you adding some fruits in the shake or an occasional solid meal replacement using an apple? Remember, don't get so freaked out on dieting and trying to stay "slim" that you'll fall into food allergies and/or giving up actual healthy eating. Of all things, make sure you are using the Super-Pak. Frank |

Carb Free? Uh other than my two carb ups and veggies... YES. No fruits in shakes or apples with meals. I thought that was how the twice weekly carb up was done. No?? The only time I have a shake is post workout so I will try to add 2tbs of pb to my last meal of the day.
I am taking a super pack daily also. Dang...just when I thought I had this figured out...you throw me the duece... |
