Making life easier
I've read Eat Right for Your Type by Dr. D'Adamo and The Fat Burning Diet by Jay Robb. Both had some things to say about diet and health. I took some of those elements and applied it to my "Beverly" Diet. Here are the elements that I've taken from eat book. First from Dr. D'Adamo: 1. Since I am blood type O (did the home self test kit), I should focus on lean red meats, limit dairy, eggs, grains and cereals, and support my meat intake with green veggies for fiber. Salmon is highly beneficial and so are flax oil and olive oil. Second from Jay Robb: 2. Eat three solid meals per day with 4-6 hrs between meals...no snacking between. This will help to totally digest the food. Feed your lactobacteria in the colon for better digestion. Manage glycogen levels via diet (knew that one already) for example, high carb meals, low carb meals, high carb days, low carb days, etc. So my diet went from this: 1. 5 eggs whites, 1 egg, 5 oz lean protein, 1/2 grapefruit or 1/2 cup oatmeal (depending on condition) 2 & 4. 3 scoops MP (add flax oil sometimes). 3. 8 oz. lean protein, veggies (6 oz. sweet potato depending on condition) 5. same as 3 without sw potato. to this (no whey, no eggs, 3 meals, all solid): 1. 1 lb. lean protein, 2 oz. feta cheese, 1/2 grapefruit, veggies. 2. 1 lb. lean protein, veggies. 3. 1 lb. fatty protein (salmon), veggies. and add sweet potato and/or steel cut oats for higher carb meals/days and decrease protein and fats in those meals/days. The results for the last couple have weeks have been good. But most notedly, any indigestion, or stomach uneasiness is basically gone. I used to get a slight indigestion from the shakes...nothing major, A slight bloat from oatmeal everyday...nothing major, and a little stomach uneasiness with the eggs even as I ate them...that was actually a becoming a problem. I thought eating all solid protein all day would be hard...but it actually is much easier than I thought and it also enjoyable and comfortable to my digestive system. I don't know how this would work for the average person who doesn't training or isn't already eating high protein levels but I think the bodybuilding and fitness community would probably have some benefit in trying out this simpler/more comfortable method of eating. The way I see it, lions and tigers are big strong and ferocious and they don't eat 5-7 times a day...but they are eating meat and not drinking protein shakes, and they are eating huge wilderbeasts all in one sitting. Everyone's digestive system does not work this way. For example, 'A' blood types should really on vegetable proteins and fish for bodybuilding. 'B' blood types can withstand the dairy proteins without blood agglutination. Its an interesting concept but it may have some real application to individualizing a bodybuilding diet. What are your thoughts on this? -winflex. |

Winflex,
All this sounds very interseting. I'm definitely going to pick those books up. Thanks for sharing. "Research your own experience, absorb what is useful, reject what is useless, add what is specifically your own." - Bruce Lee |

I'm not giving up my PB!
My oil is blended to be 60% Flaxseed oil, 40% Olive oil. I would try that, but lately, I just have not been able to consume volume. 1/2 lb of beef and a small grapefruit was too much. How about shedding fat? How do you feel it would or did work? Frank Frank "Lift and be happy. Lift harder and be excited...Get Excited, Get Big!!!" |

Yeah, it has worked for shedding fat and putting on muscle. I guess the trick I've found is to do some of Jay Robb suggested which is to have high protein meals and high carb meals separated for maximum digestion. The whole glycogen management concept is exactly what is done on the twice carb up Beverly diet for pre-contest folks; however, in that case, glycogen is taken to its lowest (after three or four days) for maximum fat burning and then, they refill the glycogen with the carb load.
I have what one would call a "voracious appetite". I've actually found myself gradually getting hungrier and hungrier as the weeks have passed while eating this way. My metabolism is on crazy fire as my body temp always seems elevated and it never dips below 98.1 F, as it did at times on the multiple meal schedule. The whole food protein is definitely helping me out. For a person who is looking to burn more fat from the high protein O diet would just have to carb load (with beneficial carbs..and for an O, Banana is a no no) less times than say a person who is trying to put on more muscle...but generally, a person would not want to carb deplete for more than three days as that would be detrimental to the metabolism. I think an O needs to make sure their protein is constantly high because of their body's strong immune system which can be too strong at times..attacking its own stored proteins. |

I worked at a health food store in lexington for almost a year and we had the eat right for you type book and I found it very interesting bc my body seemed to respond best to higher proteins (I'm an O blood type also). I felt better digestive wise. We did blood analysis there too, which basically consists of taking a drop and looking at it under a microscope. At the time my protein was 400+g a day and I showed now signs of digestive problems with that but my carbs were moderate and I had pretty problems with undigested sugars in my blood...just interesting i thought.
Check out John Berardi's DVDs or precision nutriton too, I think the diet guidelines he lays out have worked best for me. essentially it is lean proteins at every meal, 10-15 servings of fruit and veggies a day, and starchy/sugary carbs only in the post workoutperiod. Pineapple and yogurt are worked in there too to help with the whole digestive situation too. |
