Hey all,
Not really a question, but a quick note and potential discussion starter. After my outdoor soccer season ended I embarked on a bulking diet. Probably about 90% clean. My bodyfat climbed to 11%at 166. I followed this until my indoor season began. Once indoor began I got back on a more of a hardening type diet, but with more carbs than youd usually think, but less fat than a typical diet as well. I just like this better, less cravings, stronger, feel fuller, I dont like low carb diest etc. Anyways, Ive not cheated on the diet in those three weeks except after my indoor games I go to LaRosas, great pizza joint, and eat more than half a large pan pizza. I think its probably about 800 cals or more in that sitting. Anyways, my bodyfat has since dropped to roughly 9% at 162 where I was 166 at 11%. Thats just about a 4lbs fat loss in about three weeks with a huge cheat meal. Every time after the cheat I get back on the diet and wake up feeling tighter in my midsection. Im taking no fat burning supps. Actually Im not on Synergy, creatine or glutamine. Im on MP, MM, food, and Mass Aminos, thats it. I just thought this was interesting. Im going to carry this out for the rest of my five games and see what happens. Though there will be the interlude of Thanksgiving. But this is making me rethink my cardio regimen for my shows, when I compete again. Im thinking 40 minutes of short sprints once a week maybe the most beneficial to me. The only thing I cant tell yet is if fat loss would be quicker without the zza or if that huge meal works with the sped up metabolism to burn more fat the following days. Any thoughts? Kevin,
Im playing over at Town and Country in a mens league. Unfortunately its not very competitive. The team Im on is pretty decent, I think we have 4 college players and others that could have. Weve been wining by over ten goals, it actually gets boring. But, Im liking the cardio aspect again. I went to Centre and played there, I went to high school at Summit (class of 96). Senior year we were picked to win the state but it didnt happen. In the summer I play at Town and Country as well and thats a much better league than this indoor session. You get many good players from NKU, UC and Xavier and some of the smaller KY colleges. If you are looking to play competitively go for T & C upper division in the summer. Are you from this area originally? Jason Jason Theobald www.geocities.com/chezburger10/JASONTHEOBALDBIO.html |

I've never payed at Town and Country before although I have coached there. I coach with the Cincinati Ladyhawks........Same affliation that the Riverhawks are to the MSL we are to the W-USA........
I played at Batavia and believe it or not I graduated in 92, which means I may have played against you. You would have been a freshman, myself a senior...... Playing in the MVC made us win a lot of games during the State Tournament we probaly should have lost. That was a tough league..... |

Jason,
Carbs act differently with cardio. A lot of people that diet down for a contest, doing a lot of cardio, will have more carbs in the diet. I'm not sure about the large meals, though. I did a strange diet a few years back. I didn't compete at that time but I'm reluctant on trying it again. It was very small snacks for the day, then at the end of the day, a large meal followed by 2 smaller meals all within a 3 hr period. I didn't lose any strength! That meant I kept a lot of muscle, in fact, I increased my strength. Why don't I want to do it again? I was uncomfortable, much like starting on a low carb diet. Be careful for those last few games. Frank,
Keeper eh? In indoor that can be brutal. Was that diet you speak of the Warrior diet? I for one could not make it on that diet. Id pig out when I finally could eat. Jason Theobald www.geocities.com/chezburger10/JASONTHEOBALDBIO.html |

I have seen similar things. The occasional big meal seems to spark the metabolism. It also sometimes means that we are not getting enough calories. Hard to beleived that to lose fat we have to eat more. Precontest you may want to try a big meal but use good food. Maybe not the pizza. Possibly have a carb up type meal one evening a week before you have even started a low carb/twice weekly carb phase of dieting. I agree with Frank. More cardio means more carbs can be tolerated as well as more total calories. Some do better this way (cardio) as the diet does not have to be so tight. Enjoy your weekly pizza. Ray |

I use something like this off season. I do cardio 3xweek. two sessions are of medium intensity and duration, session three is 30-40 HITT style going around 9mph for 1 min then 3 min at 6 mph. I must add that 9 mph and 6 mph are my best, I start lower and take time building up. Anyway Sunday is my big cardio day and after church (I do cardio before mass on empty stomach) we go to brunch and I eat... alot. My b/f stays around 9% all off season and I spend a day eating whatever I want. I noticed after I feel warm, sweat alot and my metabolism screams for a few days. There is reserch suggesting that the hormones secreated from the "indulgent" meals helps with metabolic control and a increase of t-3 converting enzyme and a increase in t-4 by the thyroid gland. All I know is I get to eat "taboo" foods and still stay somewhat hard. I stop this about 16 weeks out and go with extra complex carbs that day and eventually use the normal Beverly diet phase plans.

Sully,
Thanks for confirming what I was thinking. Id never cheat like that precontest. But I was thinking that Id use this next time out starting about 16 weeks out, but with good foods. Then see where Im at by week 12. Thanks, sully, and frank for commenting. Jason Theobald www.geocities.com/chezburger10/JASONTHEOBALDBIO.html |

Sorry Jason for not responding quicker. Yes, it was the Warrior Diet. Very interesting approach.
What is your reaction to wheat? If I eat a couple of slices of pizza, I'll behave like I have a hangover and I puff up for a few hours. I don't handle wheat well, especially after several years of dieting Beverly style. Keeper? Yeah, it was the most brutal sport I've ever played, including sandlot football. There were some vicious collisions, too. The funniest thing that ever happened, I was playing volleyball during the week and soccer, weekends when they asked me to fill in the field. I reacted to blocking the ball and was red-carded. My plea worked when I explained the situation. Everyone got a good chuckle. Sentence was reduced to yellow. Frank |
