Hi. I'm looking for a little motivation as well as accountability here. I have 30 lbs. to loose from this last pregnancy of mine. I do not compete but do however like to stay fit and active. I was at my best last year when we found out we were expecting again. However, I am having trouble getting motivated again. I don't eat red meat or fish. Basically my only choice is chicken. I get soooo tired of the same ol' foods. Is there anyone out there who has been in my position-especially a woman who has had children-that would have any suggestions or advice on how to get back on track and stay there? My latest measurements are so depressing! Any help anyone has would be greatly appreciated. I just started back on my nutrition plan this past Monday and begin lifting again 3x's a week. I have been doing cardio 30 minutes a day on the treadmill 5x's a week. When am I ever going to start seeing that old physique again? Is it possible or am I not being realistic? Thanks so much!

Angie,

If you are simply looking to drop weight and maintain lean mass but not accumulate it, then there is no reason why you cannot find a diet where you are not eating chicken all of the time. In my practice I have dealt with many lifestyles, including vegetarian. My wife is mainly vegan but does eat some quality meat a few times a week, and I have done vegan periods myself (I always try out new plans to understand them better, and always keep track of how they impact clients).

If you do not eat red meat or fish, then simply having a variety of whole grains, beans, lentils, legumes, nuts, and seeds can provide plenty of protein for your needs. Focus on whole, unprocessed foods.

It won't be a Beverly style plan but I think it is quite difficult to eat this way if you are not eating red meat or fish. Some other options I guess are turkey, do you just not enjoy the taste of beef and this is why you only eat chicken? Eggs and Ultra Size can go a long ways towards supplying quality protein and satisfying your sweet tooth as well.

Just a few suggestions. My wife is 5'10" she was 175 after having the baby and now enjoys 17% body fat at 132 pounds.

I see no problem with you not eating beef or fish. I know women who have gotten ready for figure shows on a vegetarian diet using eggs, protein powder and cottage cheese.

Sample plan:
Meal 1: Eggs and a grapefruit in morning
Meal 2: 2 Muscle Provider w/ a couple strawberries
Meal 3: 1 cup cottage cheese big salad with Paul Newmans dressing.
Meal 4: same as above
Meal 5:6-8 oz chicken with broccoli or other green.

Instead of the carbs ups I recommend on the weekend go out to a nice big dinner. Have whatever you were craving during the week, bread, wine, lasagna (hmmmm) and desert. Or is that whay Im craving, lol. But that is the only cheat.

Given you have a small frame and were in shape once you shouldnt really have that much trouble.

Try varying the foods you can eat that are healthy. Make eggs and veggie omelets. Use hot sauce. Vary the seasonings and ways you prepare the chicken. There are ways to be creative and still eat for fat loss.

Finally, check out the main page, go to the profile of Julie Lohre. I dont think you could find a better role model. Good luck,

jason--
