Hello boys and girls...

I have a question about eggs.

Recently I've been 'consuming' about 5 raw eggs whites, along with 1 or 2 whole raw eggs every morning for the past week or two. I've mixed them in with my chocolate protein shake and some water.. and feel like this 'must' be 'good for me', right? Now I'm not so sure...

I started this because I have a hard time eating 6-10 egg whites/eggs. And, I had heard of people consuming raw eggs in the past....

I'm started doing some research.. and I get literally *tons* of mixed reviews about doing this. Some say the eggs isn't absorbed as well raw as when it's cooked, others say it is... some say it can cause a biotin deficiency... others say not. Some say the chance of salmonella poising is extemely remote like .002%, while others disagree...

Soo.. I just wanted to come here and ask what your thoughts are on consuming raw eggs/egg whites? I know you can get the pasteurized egg whites, but cost is a factor here as well...

I myself have been wondering about this. In the past I was eating 4 egg whites & 2 whole eggs and 1 1/2 cup cottage cheese. Now, I put the 4 egg whites, 2 whole eggs, and 1 scoop Muscle Provider in the blender and mix it up. It yields nearly the same protein amount, but much lower in fat, and tastes great.

I also have been wondering if the raw eggs are a potential health hazard.

That's *exactly* what I've been doing Rob. Great thing is.. you can hardly taste the eggs. And I don't have to 'gag' myself trying to get them down.

I'm anxious to hear from others....!!

Eating Balboa style baby! Yeah!

This long pre-dates the Rocky days...

If you do a search on this topic, on Google for example, you find TONS of differing opinions!

Microwave each egg for a few secs. I think I saw, "30", but I could be wrong.

Raw eggs are consumed and used quite a bit (no cooking at all). Several things:

-Keep them refigerated.
-You can throw them in soap/water before use
-microwave for a short period.

I didn't mix a large amount, but I would throw a whole egg in the shake. GOOD STUFF!!

"A dree uhn!"

Raw eggs are not recommended. It's simply not worth the risks. Salmonella is not fun (been there!!!) and long term ingestion of uncooked egg whites can cause biotin deficiency. The biotin issue aside, at least consider using pasturized egg whites in place of raw eggs. Also, remember that all microwaves are not created equally. Timing the sanitizing process correctly (regardless of how) is inconvenient at best. At worst...well, you don't want to go there.

It's playing/working with a loaded gun. You can do it for years, it just take one mistake, eh?

Me? I'll eat raw eggs. It's not everyday, it's not just during contests. It's every-so-often. This year, I have yet to eat them raw. Last year, about 1, every other day for 4 or 5 weeks.

Maybe it's the adrenaline from the danger zone? It is not recommended and it's good to know what is good and what is bad, the dangers.

what about egg beaters or liquid egg whites, they are pasteurized. I have been making omelets with 12 egg whites, but since i started buying them as 100% liquid egg whites I'll just drink 2 cups of them. I don't seem to have any problem as far as digestion goes, but are the effect still the same as raw eggs on biotin, etc?
