I've been cutting out a lot of dairy out of my diet the past two weeks...

And then I read something eating cottage cheese?

May I include this for one meal? (1/2 c.)

Chunkybum!! I love it, but you don't have to be nice Rachel! LOL!

But to answer your question, 1/2 cup of cottage cheese is not really going to hurt you to bad. It is pretty beneficial to have it as a meal before bed because of the high concentration of Casien protein (slow release protein). It is relatively low in lactose also, but it is in there. Per half cup you are looking at 13g protein and about 4-5g carbs, and the fat is variable upon the percentage fat cottage cheese you get. But the 4-5g carbs is ALL lactose and some cream.... If you are NOT competing, it is not a bad idea to throw it into your menu, assuming you can handle the small amount of lactose in it!

I've never done it, but I understand you can rinse the cottage cheese.

Hey, how about, "Chunkybutte"? Big Grin

That is actually a pretty brilliant idea! That way you can almost rid the lactose all together!

I like the french spelling of my name that Frank is insisting on "chunkybutte"... let's just say, I may be in pretty good shape, BUT I will NEVER have shredded Glutes! Wink

I hate the word "butt".

Vijay, you are officially Senior Chunkybum to moi. (=

I dont think I will go to the extreme of rinsing. I buy lowfat (not regular, not fatfree).

I'm having it on a bed of greens and with a T. of carb-less French dressing. I think it's Walden's.

Anyhow. THANKS!

Yep you can wash the stuff. Get a strainer and just put it in it, and rinse it off, that gets rid of a lot of the lactose and you are left with a very good quality casein protein.

Its of course much drier that way, but I kind of like it better in some ways...

I feel like an idiot for never having thought of that myself! So simple?!?! I am severly lactose intolerant so I am definetly going to try this trick! I have avoided cottage cheese for a LOOOOONG time now because of that. Awesome idea.

Definetly will Frank. Right now I am strictly adhearing to beef, tuna, egg whites, and UMP for protein and sweet potatoes, quinoa, and oatmeal for carbs. Once summer is over and I don't care to not be under 10%, I will certainly try this trick before bed most likely.
