Are you too Acidic?

We all know the human body is exists in a very delicate balance. Not enough sleep, too many hazardous chemicals in our environment, stress, and the list goes on. Many people think of getting the right amount of protein, healthy fats and carbohydrates in their diet, but not too many people are familiar with a healthy pH or acid/ alkalinity balance in their body. The human body functions better at a slightly alkaline ph. Root vegetables, dark leafy greens and fruits are the best to eat to get your body into a better alkaline balance.
Refined sugars and grains produce more acid in your body. Bacteria and viruses thrive in an acidic body environment. Haven’t you noticed people that eat more fruits and a broad array of vegetables are generally more healthy? You can test your ph by purchasing test strips to put on your tongue at pharmacies and health food stores.
Once you become more alkaline you may notice you feel less stressed, more rested and have better energy. All of those are goals for me so I make sure I eat veggies with all my meals. Spinach is particularly alkalinizing.

Here are some easy ways you can become more alkaline, and closer to a salivary ph of 7.
Eat a salad with more meals. Include as many colors as you can of veggies in it.
Use the amino acid supplement L-glutamine. It has a good alkalinizing effect and can keep gastrointestinal health optimum.
If you cant stomach lots of veggies get a berry flavored greens drink and shoot it in the morning. Hold your nose if you have too!. The benefits outweigh the taste trust me.
Stop drinking high fructose corn syrup flavored drinks.
Get away from refined sugars.

I hope these small tips keep you healthier for 2010

Great post and advice. I researched this very same topic recently. An alkaline state is also a more conducive state for the body to lose fat.

A few things to watch to keep from going too acidic.

1. Reduce diet sodas and energy drinks
2. Drink a higher ph water and more due to high protein intake.
3. As Joe stated, sugar drinks tend to raise acidity topped off with the processing and water base.
4. Have alkaline veggies with the meals to help balance out the ph factors.

Alkaline diets have been known to help prevent many health issues from kidney stones to inflammations of the many kinds. Quicker recovery and reduced muscle soreness have also been noted.

I've been researching this for the past year. The more I read, the more I've liked the experimentation.

Thanks Joe!
