The only vegetable I really like is carrots. Are carrots as good for you as greens when you are in precontest mode? What do you guys think?

I'd have to say NO.. they are on the starchy/avoid list with corn for Bev's master food list. They convert too quickly to natural sugar. If pre-contest, stick with your greens: broccoli, asparagus, green beans, brussel sprouts, lettuce, spinach. I rarely eat carrots or corn on/off season.

I know corn is a no no, but on the master list I recieved carrots are ok, but I have heard that they are not as good as greens due to the nutrient content. Any other opinions?
Non-Starchy Vegetables: asparagus, green beans, cabbage (all varieties), carrots, cauliflower, celery, cucumbers, kale, lettuce (all varieties), onions, peppers (green, red, jalapeno, etc.), radishes, spinach, string beans, squash (summer varieties only), tomatoes.

Ah, the great carrot debate. Let me see if I can shed some light. Carrots contain a ton of fiber.. in there raw form. Cooking has a way of changing absorption of foods and to a degree food compositions. Take a potato for example. In its raw form it has a low GI and lots of fiber, but once baked... we all know what happens. No I don't eat raw potatos, and never met anyone who does so the potato debate is moot as far as most are concerned and there is little confusion over the GI or starch debate. Now carrots are just as good raw as cooked, but when cooked there GI climbs into the 100's range and that is bad! However a few raw carrots through the day are a good source of fiber, carotene and lots of other good stuff, but they should still be augmented with other green veggies. Broc, salads, peppers, mushrooms, zuccini, squash (summer not acorn) green beans and brussle sprouts are all on my eat daily list. I can down up to 3 bags of veggies a day and find them one of the best parts of my meals. So enjoy your RAW carrots but find a gree you like too.

On the carrot debate most literature I read indicated a mixed bag some say yes some say no. So in Dec I directly asked Roger and Rita. Their reply carrots are a soso issue not bad to eat but most do not control quanity while eating 4 or 5 of the ready to eat baby carrots ok bet ya can't stop there so it becomes a bad thing. Also there are better choices when precontest. Now I'm sure the carrot issue is clear as mud Wink
