I am suppose to add flax seed oil to my protein drinks but could not find any this weekend - how does flax seed compare. I should use 2 tsp oil - so how much flax seed should I use to equal to 2 tsp oil? Appreciate any advice.

Flax seed oil is commonly found in the refridgerated section of health food stores. As for how the seed caps measure up, you'd be taking somewhere between 9-13 a day. The oil is more cost effective so, maybe try calling some stores to see if they have it in.
Hope that helps.

I am taking the capsules but it is the actual flax "seeds" that I bought in the refrigerated section. I do know it adds fiber to my diet but not sure how the seed compares to the oil?

i think the serving sive for flaxseeds is 3 tbsp. they have a little less fat and some carbs. you are supposed to grind them in a coffee grinder before you eat them.

I use Barleans Flaxseed oil with Barleans Greens powder. I just mix 1 tbs of each into my protein drink. Make sure you count the calories into your diet!

Here is the wesite for Barleans:

three tabl. equals one tabl. of the oil.

E610 is right - Flax seed contains carbohydrate, fiber, and (of course) less oil per gram than the extracted oil. Depending on your goals and diet you may or may not be able to substitute ground flax seed for the pure oil.
I can't recall the amount seed = 1 teaspoon oil...

BTW - Barleans is the best brand for bulk flax oil.

does adding it to the shakes taste good? I currently add it to my oatmeal only and I can't imagine adding it to a shake, but it gives the oatmeal a nice nutty flavor.

Adding it to the shakes is actually not bad at all. I was a bit skeptical of the taste, but it was quite palatable. I use 2 tbsp flax seed in place of 4 tbsp of heavy cream.
