I was recently talking to a seasoned bodybuilder about precontest dieting. He asked whether I was altering my carbs. I answered that Beverly sometimes puts people on such diets closer to the contest with several days of low carbs and then a day of higher carbs.
He indicated that he did his slightly differently. Instead of days of (e.g.) low/low/high, he did something like low/medium/high. His rationale was that after a couple of cycles with LLH, your body starts to adapt while he found that constant altering of carbs kept the body off balance and the metabolism higher. Has anyone heard of this variation, and if so, has anyone tried something like this? What would be the pros and cons of such as approach? Tom |

Mon low carb, high pro Tues low carb, high pro Wed moderate carb, moderate pro Thurs high carb, low pro Fri low carb, high pro Sat moderate carb, moderate pro Sun high carb, low pro even though I may say low pro that was still 1gr per pound of bodyweight while mod. was 1.5gr and high 2gr |

Tom,
sounds like Chris Faldo's plan. I ran into Chris at the Arnold back in 1996 when he was going for his 3rd team "u" and just won the Nationlas. We talked diet alot and that was his outline. He would go as far as three lows, one high one medium. It worked great for him as he is more endomorphic (like myself) and tends to get heavy on more carbs. I did use the plan in 2000 with some success, but in later shows I just went with my Beverly plan and made a few adjustments. Sully |
