I know that for a male athlete fiber intake of about 28-40 grams per day is optimal.

Question is, if I can get most of my fiber from oats, brown rice, cereals, etc., how important is it that I get some from green veggies?

Second question is, what is the optimal "servings per day" of green veggies for the male athlete?

Thanks.

Green veggies have more to do than introduce some fiber. Besides for the natural source of vitamins and minerals, veggies "space" occupy in the stomach and in the gut. For a dieting athlete, this is invaluble cuz you are allways hungry!! This is a great way to keep that hunger not as intense. Not to mention the health benefits from insoluble AND soluble fibers.

Chances are, you would want to have plenty. I believe in this case, more is better than not enough. As you get older, you'll definitely want to keep things running smoothly.

I had left several tablespoons of flaxseeds in water overnight (1:3 ratio fs:h2o). Added it to the oatmeal, and I'll be, it was really some good stuff. They swell and form a thick gel consistency. If you can grind them into a fine powder, I'll bet that would be much better!
