When I am on the lean gain diet, which consists of 1/2 cup oats for meal 1, and 4oz yam at meal 3 (those are my only carbs), why do I feel more hungry (and less energy and also moody!) than when I am on the fat loss diet (monday and thursday carb up days)? You would think I would feel starved and moody on the fat loss diet, ont lean gain(??)
Does that mean I am carb sensitive? Has anyone else experienced this? |

I think it means metabolism is speeding up and wanting more food......just my opinion.....
When is your next show? How do you look? Do you look fuller and better, in my opinion thats still nothing in terms of carb intake.... How many times training per week? And how much cardio? I thought you were following your trainers diet? |

I am a little confused. Your current diet sounds like a fat loss diet to me?? Your only source of carbohydrates come from 2 meals and those are small portions giving you approximately 75 grams of total carb intake. That is pretty low for a lean gain diet??
Given those specific macros, then the rest of your diet would consist of Protein and fats? How much of each are you doing. So far it seem as though you are doing a 50/30/20 split... which would NOT be a lean gain type diet! Post your current diet, something doesn't sound right. Vijay Rock Puri, D.C. |

Here's the thing- When I went to see my trainer, she said she was going to email me my diet program because she didnt have it on hand. So she emails it to me (I posted it on a different thread) and I asked you guys if you thought the carbs were too high. Well I got great feedback and thought (and felt) I was on target with my macros. So at my next appointment with my trainer, I brought a list of my food intake for a given day - this was based upon the diet she emailed me. Well then she looked at it and said my carbs WERE too high. So I was totally confused at that point because she was giving me contradicting info at this point. Then she said to follow this diet instead: For 3 days: Meal 1: 1/2 cup oats, 6 egg whites Meal 2: 1 scoop of UMP or Muscle Provider Meal 3: 4-5 oz chicken breast, 1/2 cup brown rice Meal 4: 1.5 sccops of UMP or MP Meal 5: 4-5 oz chicken or fish, 2 cups of spinach (Notice there are no oils or good fats- but she said I should keep fats to 10-15%) On the 4th day refeed: Meal 1: 1 cup oats, 4 egg whties Meal 2: 1 scoop UMP Meal 3: 4 oz chicken, 3/4 cup brown rice, 1 cup broccolli Meal 4: 1.5 scoops UMP Meal 5: 5 oz chicken/fish, green veggies She has me doing 30 min moderate cardio (treadmill) in the a.m upon rising everyday, weight training in the evening 6 days a week, and another 45 min session of moderate cardio after weights everyday (this is 7 days a week) So the diet the RE- CONFIGURED for me sounded like the beverly lean gain but minus the good fats. She is phobic about fats for some reason. So i just didnt feel good on this diet and said to myself to just go back to ole' faithful BEV. So I started a rotation diet, as of yesterday which I think I should follow: Monday and Thursdays: Meal 1: 4 oz turkey breast, 3 egg whites, 1 yolk, 1/2 grapefruit Meal 2: 1.5 scoop UMP or MP Meal 3: 5 oz chicken, 2 cups salad with vinegar Meal 4: 1.5 scoops UMP or MP Meal 5: CARB UP MEAL: 1 cup oats, 6 oz sweet potato, 4 oz banana, 1 cup veggies, 1 tsp almond butter Tuesday and Friday (bad days): Meal 1: 4 oz turkey breast, 3 egg whites, 1/2 grapefruit Meal 2: 5 oz chicken/fish, 2 cups salad Meal 3: 2 scoops UMP Meal 4: 5 oz chicken, 2 cups broccolli Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday Meal 1: 3 egg whites, 3 oz turkey breast, 1/2 cup oats MEal 2: 1.5 scoops UMP Meal 3: 5 oz chicken, 1/2 c oats or 4 oz sweet pot, 1 cup veggies Meal 4: same as meal 2 Meal 5: 5 oz turkey/chicken/fish, 1-2 cup asparagus I am 9 weeks out from competition and I am so worried! My weight is 121 and my BF is 17%!! I feel like I am not leaning out fast enough- although I did put on more muscle in my arms and legs. So I am fuller, but still my BF and weight are so high! Do you think I have time to strip this off for the show? I am doing double session cardios religiously everyday. And in the a.m., I do it on an empty stomach but I do take 4 muscularity caps, 1 scoop glutamine while I am jogging (5.5-6.0), and 1 cup of plain coffee before just for energy. And more cardio in the pm!! |

I am taking all my bev supps:
2 lean out with each meal 2 liver tabs each meal 3 muscularity with each meal 3 efa with meal 1 and meal 5 Mulit vit Vit C Glutamine select (1 scoop) during training 4-5 muscularity pre training Also- I am not cheating on my diet at ALL! =) No cheat days/cheat meals ever! I am so worried, and so confused. One thing that is good about this trainer is that she is showing me some great exercies that are different and challenging- but the diet part- just not too sure about.. |

I like the cardio schedule and the moderate cardio. Dont like training 6 x per week, I never went above 4 during my training for shows, if you are going to failure I think 6x per week is way to much. Can be counterproductive. You have to ask yourself, do you pay for each session, hmmmm, wonder then if there is a reason 6 is being recommended, I dont know many naturals who train that oftern when getting ready.
Here are the macros Id have for you based on lean mass. Training days: 125 grams protein over 6 meals so 20.8 grams per meal, 142 grams of carbs over 6 meals so 23.6 per meal, fats would be 15% of the above totals so about 27 grams, I would add or fill in the holes by taking fish oil caps or EFA gold, something that is 1 gram per pill so its easy to add and subtract. Non training days: Protein 125, carbs drops to 92 per day spread over 6 meals, so 15 grams per meal, and fats still about 27 grams. I would keep cardio morning and evening every day, but train 2 on, 1 off, 2 on, 2 off (weekends off other than two light cardio sessions broken into two x per day). Run these against those, see what you are getting. I know Im in the minority though...... |

BTW, you have plenty of time, dont keep stressing. I think you just have to stick to a plan and roll with it. Cant keep flopping back and forth.
PM me is you wan to discuss your macros and diet further. Otherwise, stick to what you set forth and go with it. |

Also, again Im going to make some go...hmmmm...but BCAAs require insulin to cross the cell membrane, they are the only amino acids that require such. Therefore, not only do I not believe they help in the morning where no insulin is present, I think they can be of a detriment as the point of fasted state cardio right out of bed is to burn fat immediately since insulin is suppressed from the fasted state and glucose is not present in the body. The BCAAs inevitably cause a bit of a spike. When I was told this I didnt really believe it, but I did my own research, just something to think about.
For that reason I used regular Glutamine right out of bed with muscle synergy and my fat loss stack. Right after while cooking i used 3-4 density to prevent catabolism. |

Jason-
To answer your first question, I paid for 12 training sessions as a package, and I train with her once per week. Now as for diet- thank you so much for the breakdown. I think that if I am going to be doing all this cardio, I should be taking in some carbs. Oh- I forgot to mention that she had me cutting off meals at like 6pm! That was killing me with the schedule I have. So I am going to try your diet. I am going to PM you with what I put together based on my macros and see what you think. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I know I have to stick to just ONE diet!! |

Kelly, I think that "carb sensitive" really means sugar sensitive. I used to think I was carb sensitive and really found out it is BS to an extent.
As for a time to cut off meals, WOAH! Jason hit something here with the potatoes. There are two issues with them: Eating with meals and fats and eating it as a meal. Take a look at this link I posted here: http://beverlynutrition.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/7196051983/m/5021020894 I think you need to drop the trainer for diet info and really, as far as figure, look at the way you look, don't stress on BFC. I've seen very lean women not even make top 5 while the one without abs showing take the overall. Present yourself with the nonstop smile. As for you, Jason, you've made me a believer about carbs. But again, its the type of carbs. Frank "Lift and be happy. Lift harder and be excited...Get Excited, Get Big!!!" |

Hi Frank!
Interesting article! Does that go for SWEET potatoes too? I prefer those as my carb choice rather than plain ole brown rice any day.. Hey are you comin down for the NPC and OCB here in June? |

Let me know where it is going to be held.
NPC usually was in the old theater. I have to go on business. I was going next week, but I'll reschedule. More than likely, there's going to be a few old friends competing there. Sweet potatoes? From the articles, it seems like they're changing the way they evaluate carbs just like the glycemic index. Any carb you eat, if eaten with fats, it will slow everything down and not have that rush of sugar into the system. So, take in the SP, but I would suggest to keep in mind varying the food sources. Sweet potato here, white, red, rice, oats, etc. As for the trainer, it's always best to either terminate or explain that the diet is not working for you and why the changes in the diet you've made because they'll believe it is their diet and it's worked for you. I'm always open for input but I want to know why it's better. That goes for most things. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Frank, Frank "Lift and be happy.
