When you drink a shake after working out depends where you are in your diet. If you're in a gain state, it has been known to be best consumed ASAP. Some suggest as soon as you walk into the locker room to change. These shakes can be higher in carbs as well.
During your fat-burning mode of a contest diet, I have seen waiting one hour after the workout. This allows you to continue to burn fat during that hour as you slowly cool down.
