Bev Program for running event

Wanted to see if anyone on the boards could give me advice on eating program to follow to compete in a half marathon event. My bodybuilding year is complete and for a change of pace wanted to compete in a running event this winter. All the resources I have researched mention the standard 50-60% carb intake which is not for me. I do extremely well with the Bev diets and realize I may need to bump up the carb intake some but trying to find the proper ratio of p/c/f - any ideas?

You will definitely need more calories and maybe more carbs in order to sustain such long bouts of cardiovascular activity. I think you have two choices while prepping for the event.

A) Increase cals but stay within the 50/20/30. If you do well on bev diets energy wise then you may be able to just increase cals within that the 50/20/30 confinement and do well.

B) Keep cals the same and add more carbs around the running activity so that you are getting a good source before and after. This should burn off especially since you will be running at least 20 miles a week Id think. So it may look like 40/40/20. I know white potatoes work really well for me about an hour before an intense running session. I think mass maker and MP would be fine after the session.

I think if you start out early enough you will be able to find what works for you. I know when soccer season was in I had plenty of enery on the 50/20/30 when i just increased cals. Worked for me fine.

I would consider though at least 3 days before the big event carb loading good carb sources such as oats, yams, potatoes and white rice. Although you will have prepped the day of the even you will need more energy for the run than you did during preparation due to nerves, stress, anticipation and the sheer push your adrenalin will give your body. Good luck,

jason--
