Carb Load Meal Idea

Hey all.
Instead of eating the carb load meal on Monday nights and Thursday nights, might it be just as effective, if not better, to eat them on Monday mornings and Thursday mornings. I've done 6 contests and three contest diets up to this point, and always done them in the evenings with great success. Just wondering if it might not be more beneficial to eat the carbs in the morning instead of directly before bed. From what I've been told by Sandy numerous times, the order of your meals really doesn't matter. Only that you eat exactly what's on the diet.
Anyone done the carb meals in the morning instead of replacing the last meal at night? You'll still get the same calories and insulin response, but also the energy spike to carry you through the day.
Thanks...

The carb meal is at the end of the day is to restore muscle glycogen.

It is at the end of the day so that we do not burn off the carbs/glycogen as energy.

Some approaches to low carb dieting do have entire day carb ups or multiple day carb ups.

Keep in mind that although there are multiple approaches to low carb dieting and the carb up it is best not to try and combine pieces from each. This can lead to less than ideal results.

Good Luck

Schwantz....I have been told by Jeremiah that the order of the meals doesn't matter except the carb meal, which is always done at night. For my, I don't get that energy spike the next day, I get it on the 2nd day after. Most times, I feel terrible the day after the carb meal, considering I sent my body into a frenzy with a ton of carbs. My last show I cycled the carbs every 4th day instead of 3. Wow, what a change. Once my body got synced up with the new routine, I liked eating the carb meal, but hated the day after.

D...

So I am not the only one who feels like total C R A P the day after their carb meal? Woo hoo... I thought it was just me !! Actually, since Mark has put me on the carb up approach since the Arnold I am feeling a little better following the carb meals by following DeWayde's advice. I switched from oats to rice and added R ala before my big carb up. That and I am now taking about an hour to finish off my carb meal. I don't feel nearly as bad the next day but I still don't really get that energy spurt till two days following the meal. Which is good this week... tonight is SQUAT NIGHT Big Grin Final week of the 7/70 bulking phase...hoping to accomplish around 4 for 5 sets of 5.

Hey...drop me a PM or email...

shorty,

why do you think the rice has made a difference as opposed to the oats? i too am very tired the day following my carb-up but feel better the second day as well. has the rice really helped? (does anyone know why so many of us get so tired the day after- is there a medical explanation for this?)
also, what is r-la and how does that help? sorry for all the questions but anything to make this dieting a little bit easier will always help Smile

Oats vs. Rice

Not for sure. Can have to do with the insulin response to the rice vs. the oats. May also have to do with how well an individual tolerates grains. I know dropping the oats in favor of more sweet potato can help a bit as well.

Tired the next day...
The carb up meal will cause a big insulin response. The big insulin response drives the glycogen into the muscle. But it does not stop at topping off the muscles and is mostly likely lower blood sugar too much. Until you have eaten a few meals and gotten some sugar blood stream this is probably going to be the case.

R-Ala is the R form of alpha lipoic acid. This mimics insulin and helps drive glycogen into the muscle as well.
