Is there a certain point I should cut cottage cheese out of my diet? Right now I am about 7 or 8 weeks out from my first competition and I have cottage cheese about 5 day a week for one of my meals (2/3 cup).

I would cut dairy out at around 8 weeks. Maybe a little earlier. I love dairy and it's tough taking it out the diet, but if you want to get in awesome shape than you just have to be willing to give up most nice foods like dairy, bread and even alot of your fruit intake. Replace the cottage cheese with either egg whites, lean meat or chicken, or fish.

Cut it out immediately! Ivanov gave you some good suggestions with what to replace it with. ANother good idea and a close comparison would be 1 scoop of UMP. All the benefits of Cottage cheese without the bloat, skin-thickening, and lactose.... I normally wouldn't recommend a protein shake during a contest diet, but UMP is sooooo reliable! And tastes phenominal. You could get away with using that until the end.

I dont diet on dairy myself, but my wife HATES eggs. So...instead of just giving her another shake, which would make 4, I put cottage cheese in her diet at meal 1. We will drop it in favor of UMP at some point, maybe 3 weeks out, but right now she is consistently losing 1.5 to 1.75 lbs of fat per week, so no need to. It SHOULD be dropped for sure prior to the final week, but this whole thing is really about calories in and calories out.
It might not be optimal and I wouldnt eat it for a couple meals, but one meal it might be okay for a bit. Good Luck. PS: She has cottage cheese with a dash of UMP and makes a goo, she says its great, but I have never tried it. Then she eats her oats on the side. I have it all adjusted so it hits her macros for the morning perfectly. |

Jason....has your wife competed before and what show(s) is she looking at doing? She's lucky to have a great diet consultant in her own house. Wish her luck!

Ript, nope this is her first contest, Ill let her know you think she is lucky, lol. She needs a good reminding, haha. She swore for years she would never do it, she couldnt do the low carb thing, with my diet she has no problems, gets stronger as the prep goes and is dropping fat quite easily.
The show is the Monster Mash October 25 here in Cincy, well really Middletown, OH. As of now we will probably just enter her in the Novice or pure novice, but this depends on how she shapes up, she isnt as blessed with the X shape and really small waist that some gals are (her own words are that she is short waisted and wide in the waist), but she'll make up for it with a sound diet strategy, good conditioning and VERY hard training and cardio. She was free squatting 185x5 the other day at a weight of 118, she works hard and is strong for her size. |

Dude, at 118 lbs she was squatting 185 for 5?? Thats unheard of for a female! She is a little beast... an attractive, womanly, very effeminite beast... I don't wanna have her be mad at me for calling her a "beast", but its tru! Vijay Rock Puri, D.C. |

118 is morning weight and our scale is off Ive been told 3-5 lbs, but lets say 122, its still really good. She leg presses 5-6 plates on a side to parellel more than most men at my soccer mom gym. The 185 was upper quad parellel but not hami parellel, when she touches hamis to back of calves the weight does come down considerably to the 135 mark for reps, but I wanted to push her and get her used to the new weight. Perfect form all the time, IMHO, I know not shared by all, limits weight that can be used at times, and you wont ever be able to lift it unless you feel it. Just my thoughts, i know some will attack that, but I dont care, lol. |
