High Liver enzymes...Go ![]() | New ![]() | Find ![]() | Tools ![]() | Reply ![]()

Got my liver enzymes done TWICE. Both times, they returned really high. I asked my doc about it and he said it could be attributed to a few different things. a) Alcoholism-I rarely drink, so that's out. b) Other forms of "substance abuse"-he asked if I juiced...um...no! c) Heredity-definitely a possiblity, though I can't recall family ever speaking about this. d) Excessive supplementation- a viable possibility considering all the supplementation involved in bodybuilding. So...I've quit supplementation for about 3 months, other than a liquid multivitamin in the AM from another company (sorry guys, the multi-pak makes gives me a severely upset stomach). I get my redraws today, so I should know the results by mid week next week. Questions: If they still come back high, then the fatty liver is hereditary. Would that be a preventative from supplementation in the future? #2: I also wonder how this affects dieting and fat loss ability, if at all. Just looking for opinions. I know you're not my doctor! Actually, no. The reason is because I do prolotherapy for my knees. Aspirin is counterproductive to the basis of that therapy. For pain, I take Tylenol. Rarely, at that. It is like a finger pointing to the moon. Don't focus on the finger or you'll lose all the heavenly glory.- Bruce Lee

So...found out that diet and supplementation can play a large part in the body's reluctance to lose fat from a high liver enzyme count. A little research on the net can carry you a long way. So...next question: If anyone has had this problem before, what changes did you make to your diet to help reduce your enzyemes? I've already bought milk thistle/liver detox and will be erasing red meat from the diet completely, replacing it with fish. More veggies (if that's actually possible), increasing the amount of H2O intake (again?), and decreasing supps. I'll just be taking the milk thistle, a daily multivitamin (liquid), glucosamine/chondroitin/MSM blend, and possibly a fat burner. Big question now: Best digestive system cleanse? Any suggestions? Well, great news. Other than switching my car insurance to Geico, I got the latest results back today. All is normal again. I guess the body just needed time away from the supps. Hello, Liver enzymes are my concen as well. I haven't had them checked in a few months. They were slightly high last time though. Now I am taking Quadracarn, GH factor, Lean Out, Ultra 40, Mass Aminos, and 7 Keto. Anyone else have any problems with their enzymes? I would love to hear how everyone deals with their health.

There are many things that will elevate liver enzymes including something everyone on here does with some degree of regularity: weight training. If you’ve trained within a few days before a test, chances are you’ll have elevated enzymes. Eating high calorie nutrient rich diets, lots of protein, etc are all things that could elevate them as well. There’s no evidence to suggest that a particular supplement will cause elevated enzymes. Even if you cut out supplements for a while and then enzymes are not elevated that does not definitively mean that supplements were the cause. I also know people who have made other changes (like not weight training for a week) prior to testing and their enzymes lowered to “normal” – even though they continued taking supplements throughout. Many factors can change in that time, both internal and external. Also keep in mind that medical testing for this is based on what is considered to be commonly found in 95% of the population. There are many medical categories where higher than normally muscled and less fat, highly active weight trainers are off the charts to what is considered common or normal. BMI anyone? If you have elevated liver enzymes, ask for specific clarity of what it actually means for you and if there are any negative implications in your personal case. Because it’s so common amongst weight trained people, some doctors may say it’s not a concern, in other cases the degree of elevation may indicate something more. We run the risk of being inaccurate if we try to give advice on this board of what is causing an elevation of enzymes or what the implication is for an individual. There are too many variables and factors that can affect it. Steven BI

Tee, Yes, I was relieved. Sucks when your enzymes are high and mine were for a while. Fatty liver can mean poor filtration. It is like a finger pointing to the moon. Don't focus on the finger or you'll lose all the heavenly glory.- Bruce Lee
