I have run out of heavy whipping cream. I am going to try and pick some up tonight or tomorrow. In the meantime, what should I use as an alternative? I have Flax Oil, Olive Oil, and peanuts. Or do you recommend something else?
I use olive oil typically 1/2 TBS of olive oil = 1 TBS of cream. I gain fat easily so really try to avoid the saturated fat in the cream and I have tried flax oil before and find it tastes awful.
Something that you may want to look into in the future is Coconut oil, its 50% medium chain tryglycerides and most of the studies done on it show a positive response in regards to metabolic rate.
I have been using this during a cutting phase in my shakes and it seems to be working well, it helps to mask the taste of flax pretty good. I figure how many calories I need then do a mixture of 3rd's-1/3 cream, 1/3 flax, and 1/3 extra virgin olive oil. It still tastes a lot like cream, but it makes the composition mostly non-saturated. Over the course of a day, it allows you to get more flax in. That cocunut oil idea sounds pretty good too, its been referred to as the "fatless fat" several publications I've read.
Is coconut oil a common oil you can buy at the supermarket? I looked at Walmart by the olive oil, corn oil canola oil, etc. but, did not see any coconut oil.
Thanks So coconut oil is more of a supplement then, well, in that case I'm no longer interested I spend to much money on supps as it is and MCT oil has always caused me severe stomach discomfort. I just figured it was a cooking oil I could grab off the shelf at the store and try, oh well.
Be careful with supermarket oils, most of them are refined and processed to increase the shelf life, when they do this they usually destroy the healthy characteristics of the oil. Sometimes they use acid to increase shelf life and it destroys the EFA content. Also, several of these healthy oils are heat and light sensitive (hence flax oil comes in black containers and is refridgerated--NOTE it can turn rancid and you don't even know it, so buy small bottles so that you use it up soon after the purchase date, unless you use it alot). Just some FYI.
