Beverly's Stance on Alcohol

I would like to know Beverly's as well as this board's stance on alcohol. Obviously, we would all be better without it, but I was just curious how everyone handles it. Most diets have cheat meals, but usually alcohol is consumed over several hours. I would like to know the effect alcohol has on the body and dieting, and how bad it can be for those trying to build muscle and lose fat.

Personally, I try to keep my consumption to once per week of whatever I want, usually the same night as my cheat meal. Other times, if friends are really hounding me, I may have a Michelob Ultra or two.

I am the exact same way. If I drink at all its only a few, but with summer here I can see myself consuming more then I'd like. Sun and Beer always go together for me.

So no one has an opinion on the alcohol? Rachel? If consumed, what is the best way/option?

Alcohol consumption is a personal choice. But nutritionally speaking it has a negative impact on both muscle gain and fat loss. In that regard it should be viewed in the same light as eating poorly.

As Steve said, Beer and sugary mixed drinks are considered junk food. Having said that, I respectfully disagree that all alcohol is junk. It really depends on your situation.

If you are not contest dieting, an occasional glass of dry red wine is low in carbs and can have many positive health benefits (physical and mental!).

Personally, I eat strict during the week with an occasional glass of red wine with 1-2 squares of 90% dark chocolate (an acquired taste). That combination is loaded with anti-oxidants.
