probably gained lean tissue, if you lose 3lbs fat and gain 3lbs of lean, thats a zero sum on the scale but 6 lbs difference in body comp.

Thats a lot of cardio on those calories, are you doing 75 mins 6 days a week?

I get in 75 minutes five days and 45 minutes on one day. I rest one day a week.

I can definitely see the improvements in the muscle definition. I have also seen improvements in my measurements. However, I really want to hold 105 lbs without killing myself.

What is the concern of being 105 from 108? Is it just psychological? That is hardly any weight at all. What you should be concerned about is your body fat! Seems like you are on the right track as you've lost bodyfat and gained lean mass. That is fantastic news!

You are doing a TON of cardio with a moderate weights routine on a very low calorie diet. I am not convinced that that is the best way for you to lose bodyfat. Have you been doing this particular diet for 4 months? What was your original weight and bodyfat when you started 4 months ago? Is 105 your original target goal?

The 105 lbs is purely psychological. I have lost about 20 lbs over the last three years. I have exercised for many years and even taught step classes. The problem has always been my diet. Not really the food I eat but the amount.

Since December I have really increased weight training and drastically cut down on my cardio. I have also change my ratio of carbs and protein to gain muscle. Finally, I have increase calories from about 1200 up to the 1400-1500 mark.

I have been chubby most of my life and come from a long line of obese women so genetics are against me. Also, I am very petite and a pear shape.

I would say that 105 is my target weight. I want to be able to hold that weight on a consistent basis. As far as a BF goal I am not sure. I would think maybe 14% would be a possibility. I started at 21%.

Thank you for the help.

Ok, we'll talk a little about genetics and being obese. My family history tends to be obese. I'm far from it, however, I'm the only one that works out. Too many people will blame genetics for obesity and it really is over-eating/no exercise.

Now, you've learned how to work out. Whatever you do, do not stop your cardio. Your body has learned to adapt to cardio and to slow down or stop. Slowly back off the cardio to 1 hr within a month's time.

Workout with slightly heavier weight only doing 6-8 reps. Use a weight that you CANNOT do 10 reps. You are going to reshape your body by adding a little strength training. Your diet needs more real food. Drop the protein bar. I'm not a fan of South Beach, either because they tend to use soy.

Stay away from the scale, too. Use it once a month. You can build a better body and be at 110.

Lean Out: 3 three times a day.

Being over 35, have you had your thyroid T levels checked?

Thank you very much for the advice. I will begin working on the changes Monday.

What would you suggest substituting for the protein bar and South Beach?

I have mentioned the thyroid level to my doctor and there is not a problem.

Staying away from the scale will be the hardest part<Smile

Yeah, protein bar (garbage) and south beach meal have got to go!

1. Replace the protein bar with - 1 can of tuna and a green salad w/ 1tbsp of vinegar and olive oil

2. Replace South Beach meal with - 4 Oz ground lean beef, 1 cooked cup rice, or, 4-5 oz. Sweet potato

That should do the trick. Sounds like more calories, but not really. Not to mention those are QUALITY FOODS! Who knows what you are truly getting from the protein bar?? Processed Collagen as a protein source maybe (terrible)?? Don't doubt it. Enjoy and like Frank said, stay away from the scale!!

Thank you for the suggestions. When I first read your reply, I thought you were crazy. That was a huge number of calories to add. However, after running the numbers compared with my S Beach meal, apple and PM shake you are exactly right. It was only 129 calories more. I guess it just sounds like so much more food. I really appreciate the advice. Now all I have to do is hid the scale<Smile
