What does everyone think about not "mixing" your protein/carbs/fats for better digestion?

I have been told to eat protein first... then fat sources... and then carbs. I have also been told not to drink water during my meal...just before.

Can someone explain the science behind this?

There are certain enzymes that work better when a food is eaten. I don't have factual data on this, only what other nutritionist have written. It may effect only certain individuals better and some, no effect. If I'm not mistaken, one of these types of diets is in Suzanne Sommers book where she will separate food groups and combine others.

One such food would be fruit mixed with beef. The two take different enzymes for digestion.

Consider the other problem of insulin spikes by eating fruit alone whereas combining it with the beef takes complicates the digestion, which in turn, will not spike insulin, blood glucose levels will be lower and you fill fuller for a longer period.

This is one of the reasons you will put fruit in a protein shake and add some fats such as whipping cream. Have you ever noticed how adding this will keep you feeling full for a longer period? Try it.

I believe sports nutrition is a totally different animal whereas general/couch potato nutrition just doesn't match up. This will be verified as soon as I take my class this fall!!

Certain foods I will completely stay away from would be soy and artificial sweeteners. There are others, but those two in my opinion are worse than what they intend to replace.

I now will use honey, stevia and BEEF. I'm not sure what this has to do with the subject...LOL

Yeah, I'm gonna go on record and say that Suzanne Sommers is an idiot and not to be trusted... now that that is out of the way...

EAT ALL MACROS TOGETHER!! It really doesn't make sense to do anything else. There is NO data or evidence to do in any other way. Every other way is strictly theoretical. Eating meals strictly of Carbs or strictly of fats or strictly of proteins is NOT healthy. Fact is, you can screw up your adrenal glands, liver enzymes, and pancreas by prolonged eating in such a manner.

Your body doesn't calculate what is gonna hit your stomach at any specific time? Fact is, once all the food in ingested, no matter what order, true digestion takes place all at once in the small intestines. SO it really doesn't matter what order you eat in, it is all going to be digested the same way! That is my professional opinion... also, who the heck wants to eat a plain baked potato all by itself? Boring!.... Stupid Suzanne Sommers.

ROFL

I think this is where all that "eating order" stems from. No, I didn't waste my money to buy it, but I did borrow it for reference because of some debates.

I'm going to write my book, "Eat by your eyesight" and I'm basing it on what is visual at 49.8 feet is ok to eat. It stems from Darwin's Natural Selection. Big Grin
